be the greatest suoosei in the hishify of the association. The essoeialfcin liae heretofore, bean blssssd with flood weather, and in the asrsn year* then only one day has been postponed by bed weather. The track is in fair shap* notwithstanding the bad weather, and with a day or two of sunshine will be better than erer before. The grounds are beautiful with their wealth of foliag^ The Chicago Horseman, in the issue oc this week, very beautifully says: "In the West the principal gathering of the clans will be at Term Haute. Tne programme is a very liberal one, and the classes hare all filled welL The association is a popular one, the sport ia alwni of a high order, and horses which win at Tern Haute will bear watching ae th^ go down the line. The association is very vigorous, it is a fiiit-clsss mile track, and its offloers use every effort to secure the comfort and convwiieooe of their patrons. We hope the weather clerk will smile noon this trotting meeting. If he is on tneir side sncosis is sssured. Madam Marantette will give her exhibition with Woodlawn and her running team daily."
NOTES.
Dunn fe Co. open their pool-room on Monday. Patron, 2:14^,.will not trot |n_ public 'till autumn. 1^'
Barney Treacy having £ood luck with his runners. John Splan has shipped his stable of horses from Cleveland to Jan«sville, Wis.
Dan da Noyelles says that Fred Folger will be a hard horse to. beat this season.
Orrin Hiokok has Stamboul, 2:14^, and Adonis, 2:14)£, in his California Btable.
Proctor Knott and Spokane will meet again in the American derby, on June 22d.
Orrin Hickok is now superintendent of the Bay district track at San Francisco.
Budd Doble, the driver of Goldsmith Maid, will be here with a string of horses.
J. G. Davis, of Highlawn farm, thinks the outlook good for ten additions to Alcantara 2:30 list this season.
Mr. Campbell has a great colt in Reno's Bay by Beno Defiance. He is entered in the 2 years old stake at the fall meeting.
The sum of $20,000 is offered for a great race of two miles and repeat, to be run at Freeno, Cal., on Wednesday, November 20 th.
All the horses for the meeting are at the grounds and large crowds will probably go out to-day and to-morrow to watch their training.
Scott Quinfon will leave Trenton on June 1st, with his string of trotters, for Mantana. He has the following: Favonia (2:15), Susie D. (2:35%), Presto (2:31^), Mascot, Prodigal and St. Patrick (2:24 j^).
Lair Bros., of Paris, Ky~ have lost by death the 3-years-old stallion, Kentucky Volunteer, by Victor von Biamarck, dam Byland. He was a colt of great promise, with fine trotting action, and was valued at $10,000.
Mr. Stewart certainly thinks pretty well of White Stocking, as at Dayton he made everybody weaken by offering to bet even money that he would beat the whole field in the free-for-all at that place. Mr. Stewart says that he wiH match his horse against any horse in the United States, with a record no better than 2:16, for any amount of money, and nobody is barred.
Morelight, b. g., record 2:18, by Starlight, dam by Volunteer, was troubled with an ulcerated tooth, last week, and in casting, on Saturday, with the object of probing the ulcer, he struggled so violently as to fracture his spinal column. It then waa a matter of mercy to put him out of misery, and he was shot. The horse was in Goldsmith's stable.
Just note the flyers in Budd Doble's stable: Oliver K. 2:16^, Newton B. 2:17^, Lidy Whitefoot 2:18%. Jack 2:19M» Lady Bullion 2:21%, Amy Lee 2:23%, Nutmeg 2:25, Geneva 2:25M, Maudlen 2:25%, Belle S. 2:29^, Knight 2:29%. Elista 2:29%, Groejean 2:30, MacD. 2:30, Marie Jensen 2:30V, Phallamont Girl 2:30%, Veritas 2:3%, Dixie, Miss Majolica, Limit, Hendricks,
