Mr. Paul Kuhn is visiting relatives in Evanaville. Mr. W. T. Kelsey, of Brazil, was in the city yesterday.

Mrs. B. G. Hudnut is visiting Mis. A. H. Diver, of Lafayette. The marriage of Mr. 0. R. Peddle and Miss Annie Bell will take place next Thursday at noon.

Mr. W. H. Hanbins will go to New York next Monday to take a position a traveling salesman for a New York clothing house.

Mr. John Piety, of Marshall, 111., and a brother of Prosecutor Piety, haa taken up his abode and became an attorney in this city, and formed a partnership with his brother. He passed the examination of law, required by the courts of Illinois, last week and will apply for admission to the bar here as soon as oourt reconvenes.

OBITUARY.

Elijah Voorhies, living at No. 131 Cherry street, died at 5 a. m. yesterday of rheumatism of the heart. The deceased was in his 61th year and had been in the Mexican war, and served for four years in the war of the rebellion. He wss a cooper and a carpenter by trade, and had lived in this city since shortly after the war. He leaves a wife and two childmn—a son and a daughter. He had been sick for about aix weeks and had not been able to rest except in a chair. The funeral will occur from the residence I at 2 p. m. to-day to Woodlawn cemetery.

Two Suffocated by Gaa.

BALTIMORE, Md., May 31.—Joseph D. Grant, aged 35 years, and his wife, Sophie Grant, aged 30 years, both colored, were suffocated by gaa yesterday, I in the new club house of the Jefferaon Democratic association at 839 north Eutaw street. Grant and his wife had been engaged as servants. They went to bed Wednesday night about 9:30. It is not known whether the gaa was blown out or improperly turned off.
