James Cook fell from an express wagon at Paris Saturday afternoon and dislocated his right knee.

The prices of wool in Montgomery county ranges between twenty-five and twenty-seven and one-half cents.

Only eight of the 10,274 school children in Cass county between the ages of 10 and 21 are unable to read or write.

The old soldiers of Dick Johnson township, Clay county, will hold a*meeting at Brazil nest Saturday, to discuss pension matters.

The Odd Pel lows of Crawfordaville purchased a lot 41x120 feet Saturday, for $2,550, on which they propose to ereot a lodge room in the near future.

Prank Thompson was fined $17 50 at Vincennes Saturday, for telling a barkeeper that he was 21 years old so that he could procure a glass of beer.

Friday night the clothing store of Myron Rindskopf, of Vincennes, was entered by thieves and two suits of clothes and several pairs of shoes taken.

The residence and corn crib of Thomas Buel, of Bowling Green, burned to the ground Friday morning. A number of household goods were the only things saved.

Rossville wants a calaboose, a street sprinkler, a law prohibiting boys on the streets after 8 o'clock at night, and an ordinance against throwing balls on the street.

A burglar entered the depot at Linden, Montgomery county, Friday night, broke open a trunk belonging to a traveling man and carried away several articles of value. No clue.

Mrs. Caroline Galey, of Montgomery county, who has lived in that county sixty-two years, diad at her home five miles south of Crawfordsville Friday afternoon at the age of 80 years.

John Box was arrested in Chicago, Friday night and taken to Logansport, charged with embezzling $300 from the Cordia insurance company, of Milwaukee, whose agent he was, with headquarters at Logansport.

A gold watch and $20 in money were Btolen from the Avenue house at Vincennes Thursday night. It is thought they were taken by an advance agent of a circus who was stopping there at the time, and who suddenly skipped out.

Saturday afternoon John Jones, the 15 year-old stepson of Casper Re iter, was struck and killed by a C., V. & C. train south of Vincennes while gathering strawberries. The boy was deaf and was not aware of the approach of. the engine until too late.

Friday morning Dan Worley' took poison at Centre Point, Clay county, with suicidal intent, but was pumped out and his life saved. Before he entirely recovered from the effects of the poison he was arrested and jailed by a constable on a charge of obtaining money under false pretenses.

Brazil Miner: Calvin Newton, living near Newburg, lost his house and nearly all his goods by fire Friday. The fire originated in a summer kitchen, and although the family were in the front part of the house, the wind blew the flames so quickly into the front part of the house that very little was saved. w_.

In 1888 the United States sent abroad $2,000,000 worth of sewing machines and $6,0c0,000 worth of steam engines.

In England more than a quarter of a million organized miners have demanded 10 per cent, advance in their wages.

The mild weather and overstock of canned goods are said to be peculiarly disastrous to the retail grocery trade.

It is currently rumored that the capacity of the railroad spike mill at Brazil is to be increased to 4,000 kegs per day.

Michigan capital has bought 150,000 acres of Mississippi timber land, and is looking all about for 150,000 more to buy.

Sixteen hundred of the finest cigars ever made were sent from Cuba to New York for centennial smoking, and cost $G00.

Repairs to Pennsylvania's fences cost about five million dollars each year. In some cases the incloeures are worth more than the land they protect.

Kangaroo leather has become so important an article of commerce that the Australians have set about protecting the animal by forbidding the slaughter of it from January 1st to May 1st

Henry B. Pierce, secretary of state for Massachusetts, declares that the Southern iron fields must become the world's seat of that industry, and that the next twenty-five years will witness a development there surpassing alike belief and history.

Large tobacco farms, to be worked and managed by skilled Cubanp, have just bsen established at De Funiak Springe, Fla. Tobacco grown there from Havana seed is said to be even finer and more delicately flavored than that from Cuba itself.

The strike at the National tube works, McKeeaport, which involved 2,000 jnen, and caused a suspension of work in a number of the departments of the extensive firm, was settled by the company conceding the strikers' demands for a restoration of last year's wages.

Georee W. Britton, master workman of L. A. 2345, K. of L., under the seal of that assembly, writes: "Miners are requested to stay away from Gordon, Ttx., as we are still on a strike." Mr. Britton's letter bears date of the 15th, and is the second letter received from him by the miners at Brazil.
