THE MARK ETS.
GRAIN AND PROVISIONS.
Wheat Speculators Generally Bearish Chicago Yesterday. CHICAGO, May 16.—The volume of trade In wheat was much larger than (or the proceeding days of the week. The range of prices was, however, almost as narrow as ever. All of the conditions favored values. Tbe crop oatlook Is excellent everywhere. local receipts of wheat are Increasing a little, and foreign markets continue to sag. The exports, while somewhat larger jesterday than usual are still a great deal under expectations. The production of flour at Minneapolis last week—94.000 brls—Is small, while receipts of wheat both there and at Dulnth continue quite lane. Arrivals at the former place aggregated 80,000 bu for the twenty-four hours, while Duluth received 17.000 bu. Clearings of wheat from Atlantic ports were 115.000 bu. Clearings of flour from New York were 8,00:) brls and sacks, from Baltimore 31.000 brls. Hutchinson was the main figure in tbe market. He bought a great deal of wheat early, sold part of It out,'and broke the market badly later in the session and was again buying freely at tbe decline, Partridge was putUng out a large line of short wheat during tbe early morning the small traders were also selling. A great deal of wheat was bought for New York account Jones-Ken-nett-Hopkins, the Weare commission company, Baxter, Cudahy, and several others were buying. July wheat opened at 774fec, sold momentarily at 7714c, recovered to 77?ic, but shortly after noon broke downto76%c. Hutchinson's man was in the pit otTeringto bet $1,000 that wheat would advance 2c before declining lc. This offer was made before the break.
Corn was rather dull, Hutchinson was offering tosell»ll tbe July that any one wanted above 35c or to buy all that offered at 35c or below. This made the market a very narrow one. Clearings from Atlantic ports yesterday were 149,000 bushels from New Orleans, 25,030 bushels. Hecelpts today were 54 cars less than expected. The estimate for to-morrow's receipts was for 510 cars.
Receipts were 30 cars winter wheat, 12 cars spring. 346 cars corn, and 169 cars oats. Withdrawals from store were 21,244 bu winter wheat, 10.411 bu spring, 450,834 bu corn, and 909 bu oats.
With to-day's receipts or hogs and the number left over frooi yesterday there were nearly 50.000 hogs on sale at the yards. The result was break of 15d20s in prices, and this was, of course, reflected In the "Speculative provision market July pork opened 10c off at {11.40, sold to $11.35 in the opening flurry, but before noon recovered and advanced to $1155. Armour and Byan were buying pork at the decline. Baldwin and Wolf bought pnrk and ribs. Wright and Hutchinson bought ribs. Cudahy, Roloson and Norton-Worthlngton were sellers of ribs. Klrkwood and White sold lard.
Estimated receipts for to-morrow are 17 cars wheat, 510 cars corn, 196 cars oats, and 24,000 hogs. The following gentlemen have been nominated its officers of the Chicago stock exchange: President,Charles Henrotln treasurer,William A. Hammond governing committee, to serve for three years, Edward Koch, John J. Mitchell. W. A. Hammond, F. K. Frank, William O. Cole, M. Schweisthal, L. Silverman, and E. L. Brewster to serve for one year, N. W. Harris, J. M. Adult, jr., and S. G. Lynch.
Charters on 'change were 63,000 bu corn and 183,000 bu oats. Kates were unchanged at 2%c wheat, 2c corn, and VAc oats.
The wheat market continued to sag and before the'close July sold at 76%c, closing at 76%c. July pork re-acted to and closed at $11.45.
Seeds were all dull, and the only quotable changes In prices were In clover. There were no sites in cash clover. Poor to choice, $2 to $4.25 October. $4.55 to $4.75. Clover is lower to-day. Flax was nominal at $1.53^1.54 for cash. One car was offered, but no price fixed. There was a little trade In timothy: Cash, $1.35 country prime, $1 88 September, tl.44ffil.45 poor lots, 90ca$l.~~
