It can be given In a cup of coffee or tea without the knowledge of the person taking It is absolutely harmless, and will effect a permanent and speedy cure, whether the patient is a moderate drinker or an alcoholic wreck. AMUSEMENTS.
Mr. Joseph Jefferson will appear at Naylor's next Thursday evening, May 16th, in that most familiar of modern plays, "Rip Van Winkle." It is rather late in the day to speak of the merits of Mr. Jefferson's performance of the hero of Washington living's great story. His quaint fantastie humor, hie almost childish simplicity. dashed with an undertone of shrewdness long ago made the impersonation a marvel of art. A gentleman who saw Mr. Jefferson's performance of "Rip," a short time ago, said: "I saw it first twenty-eight years ago and have seen it every year since.'' No comment could strengthen that remark, or speak more favorably of the unfading freshness of Mr. Jefferson's art. He will be supported, as is usual with him, by a first-class company, picked from the leading stock actors of America. Sale of seats begins Monday morning, May 13th.
The "Beggar Student" was presented last night by the Bennett & Moulton opera company with elegance. The stage offers a beautiful scene from the richness of the costumes, the attractive appearance of a number of the troupe, and the well arranged groups: The music was given well, and the comedy was brought out without too much burlesquing. Mr. Wolff, as Ollendorff, added to the excellent impression made in "Boccaccio." Miss Alice Johnson and Miss Irene Murphy are very prepossessing and will be found to grow in the grace of the public with acquaintance. In fact, this will be so with the company, which is a superior lot of people. To-night the very popular "Robert Macaire," with its pleasing "Erminie" music, will be offered, and for the matinee this afternoon is the "Merry War."
Strauss' charming opera the "Merry War," will be presented at the matinee this afternoon. This will be the only production of the opera during the week. To-night "Robert Macaire" (Erm inie) will be presented.

BEmMLZ CASE. For two years I liad1 rheumatism so bad that it disabled me for work 1 and confined me to my bed for a whole year, duriDg which time I conld not even raise my hands to my head, and for 3 months could not move myself in bed, was reduced in ilesh from 192 to 86 lbs. Was treated by best physicians, only to grow worse.
Finally I took Swjft'a Specific, and soon began to improve. After awhile was at my work, and fc past five months have been as well as I ever from the effects of Swift's Specific.
