alumni association of Indiana university is preparing for exercisss of unusual interest jt alumni day, for which June 11 has been designated. In the morning ex-United States Senator George Wright, of Iowa, a graduate of fifty years ago, will deliver a semi-centennial address. At 1 o'clock the alamni dinner will be served. A new feature for the alumni association will be the memorial servioee, which will be held in thr ehapel in honor of Jemee S. Rollins, Dr. J. G. McPheeters and Lewis Bollman, three of the distinguished dead of the alumni in the year of 1888-9. The Rev. John L. Pittner, class now at Bloomington, 111., will deliver the address.

The distribution of the acts of the lsst general assembly is about completed. "Nearly all the counties have been supplied with books," said Deputy Secretary of State Young, "and the receipts are all- coming in promptly. I think by Saturday night every county will be supplied." "The laws will then go into force as soon ss the governor issues his procla mationf "Yea We expect to be ready for the governor's proclamation when he returns from the EaBt, and it now looks ss if the laws would be put in force by the middle of the week."

Harry B. Darling, of the Laporte Sunday News Item, has been arrested for violating the postal law. In sending a postal card dunning a man named Hurpby. of Cincinnati, and threatening to publish him as a dead-beat. Congressman ahiroiy became Darling's bondsman and volunteered to defend him without charge.
Thirty students of the sophmore and freshmen classes of Purdue university have organized a revolt against the faculty. Recently the juniors gave an entertainment, and the other students conducted themselves In such a manner tbat a sophmore and a freshman were suspended. Among the capers by the offenders was the explosion of a cannon firecracker while one of the professors was Invoking the Divine blessing.
The suits brought by the prosecuting attorney of Tippecanoe county against a number of citizens for failure to list property for taxation, has resulted In a finding for the state. The penalty In the case of James Sharpe was $635, and the other In like proportion the collection of which, however, is distinct from the levy of taxation. The prosecution has craked agreat stir In Tippecanoe county, as there area muUtude of additional suits to follow.
Proressor A. S. Layne, superintendent of the Kvansvllle puollc schools, while In the St. George hotel barber shop last night was dangerously assaulted by George Jones, a colored barber, who cut him across the head and In the neck with a razor. Jones was knocked down with a shaving mug by Wm. Rucker, another barber, or theattack would have resulted more seriously. Jones was arrested, and the animus of the assault was his belief that Layne prevented him from getting employment In the Evansvllle schools. He was formerly a school teacher In Posey county, and is said to have lied from there for assaulting a pupil and blinding the scholar In one eye.
