The puddlers of the Wabash rolling mill were laid off yesterday for a few days.

From a statement by a Mr. O. E. Duffy, of Washington, D. C., there are about thirty-five persons in this city who aspire to be inventors.

Kate Maloney and Emma Horsley, in the Logansport hospital for the insane from thiB county, have been declared cured, and will be returned home within two or three days.

Mr. E. M. Hall, formerly a member of the police force, has returned home to remain a few dayc. He has been captain of the steamer Crown Point since the 1st of November. The steamer is now laid up for repairs.

The ladies of the Women's relief corps have on exhibition in Myers Bros*, window a beautiful quilt which they will present to the Indiana soldiers of the soldiers' home at Dayton, Ohio. The quilt contain the names of many of the veterans in this community. Each name represents so much cash contributed by that person.

The Terre Haute gas engine company has filed articles of association with the county recorder: The object of the association is to manufacture and sell gas engines oapital stock 8500,000, divided into 10,000 shares. The directors are Messrs. Newton Rogers, James A. Wharry, Frank Prox, Louis Duenweg and Joseph H. Briggs.

The Rockets have purchased the green suits formerly worn by the Terre Haute club and will play in their new uniforms to-morrow. This club will have complete base ball outfits at a cost of about ninety dollars.

Evansville defeated Springfield 8 to on Thursday. The Inter-State clubs stood in the following order: Quinoy 666, Bavenport 500, Springfield 500, Evanaville 500, Peoria 500, Burlington 333, after each had played Bix games.

The Rockets and the Pastimes will play at the park to-morrow afternoon The game will be called at 2:30 p. The Rockets had arranged to play the Danville, 111., club on Sunday a£ Danville, but the latter club telegraphed the Rockets not to come.

OBITUARY.

John Willis, of 1550 Second avenue, died at 5 a. m. yesterday, aged 74 years He was a brickmason by trade, and well known in the city. He was born in England, and came to this country about thirty-five years 8go. He leaves two daughters. His wife died a few weeks ago.

Mre. Sarah Cooper, of Otter Creek township, widow of the late Thomas J. Cooper, an old resident of that township, died last Friday at the residence of her soc-in-law, Mr. C. Niece. She was in her 74th year. She was a member of the M. E. Church and had settled south of the city with her father, Gauy Perry, in 1829. She had lived in this county continuously, except a few years in Parke county. She leaves four daughters, all of whom are married, Mrs. Aaron Pence, Mrs. H. C. Brown of Rockville, Mrs. Jacob Orth, and Mrs. Chester G. Niece.
