It was the intention to hold a test of tho new chemical engine yesterday afternoon. The Chicago agent of the firm that constructed it. did not arrive and tho test was again postponed for another day. The engine attracts many of the curious to the department headquarters whero it is at present stationed.

On Sunday afternoon Mr. and .Mrs. John Taylor were much surprised to see a long row or their friends, carrying all sizes and all shapes of packages, enter tho front gate at their home on south Fourth street, and until reminded of the fact did not realize that the occasion was tho tenth anniversary of their marriage. Tho guests immediately took possession of the house, and until a late hour in the evening devoted themselves to having a splendid time. The parcels contained everything conceivable in the line of tia ware. The event was in the nature of a reunion as almost every guest had been present at the marriage ton years before.

The tiro committee yesterday announced eight appointees. The Kepublicans are Cheater Brown, John McClolland, Henry Gruber and John Rogers. Tho Democrats are Thomas Welch, James Coughlin, Uiceard Barrett and Fred K. Goodridge. The men have not y«t been assigned to their positions. The committee also made supernumeraries Slavens and IJilby regular members of the force.
