Superintendent Hull lias to About, the institution. Superintendent Joshua Hull, of the poor asylum, gave some interesting Information yesterday In regard to the farm. There are now ninety-two Inmates of the anyluni. This number is larger than for months past, and is only exceeded In cold weather. Mr. Hull has found by looking over the record of his predecessor that in very cold weather there was a decided Influx to the asylum, The number of Inmates was at times 120 and 130. During the summer months there often are only about half as many Inmates. In severe weather many unfortunates cannot get along, and are forced to go to the asylum. Alter the winter they leave and do the best they can for themselves. If this winter Is a severe one the number of Inmates will probably exceed all previous years. By comparing the number of Inmates this year with that of previous years It Is found to lie in excess. This I act justliics the prediction of a large increase. There are at present forty-eight rooms in the asylum. Kvery room Is used and In a number of them there are two and three occupants. Should the anticipated Increase in Inmates take place It would require considerable crowding to accommodate them. When the new Insane hospitals are completed the pressure will be relieved somewhat, but until such time the asylum will of necessity be crowded.
Thanks.
The ladies of the Aid society hereby tender their sincere thanks to the citizens for their very general and generous response to the society's appeal for help during Thanksgiving week. The amount of cash subscribed, and paid is (including L'nlon Thanksgiving collection .•f!ilU.78. Value of orders to be lifted $61. and the value of the donations in groceries, dry goods, coal, shoes. Hour, soaps, hats, caps, bed comforts, turkeys, chickens and bundles of second-hand clothing will probably reach $400. About 150 Thanksgiving dinners lin basketsi were sent out by members of the different churches. The generosity of the school children was great, as donations were sent liy the wagon-load trom each district, consisting of everything to be eaten and v. .TII. The thanks of the society are due Mr. 11. Hitman for the use of a store room. Mr. Foster lor furniture. Mr. Zimmerman for the use of a stove, and the ministers of the churches for their interest, also the, school children and the youthful members of the K. S. club for their generosltv. The society would also heartily thank the editors of the city papers for their cordial and very valuable assistance. The generous response to our appeal has tilled our hands with the means, and our hearts with ardor for our winters work.

Superintendent Havens, of the new government building, said yesterday In reply to a reporter's question that there Is considerable work lelng done on the structure. "We've a pine forest on top." said Mr. Havens. The superintendent explained his meaning by saying he was Informed that It would require nearly 25.000 feet of pine lumber to construct the roof. It was suggested that this amount of lumber would make a respectable tire should llames ever gain headway In the garret. The iron work has not arrived from Cincinnati. but will be here shortly. Work of putting on the root will then progress very rapidly on account of the preparations which are lielng made.
