The Reason Why

Ayer'a Pills are so popular is, that whilo always roiiablo as a cathartic medicine, they lievor leavo any ill effects. This is becnuso they are purely vegetable, and entirely free from calomel or any other dangerous drug. In all cases, therefore, whether the patient ba old or young, they may be confidently administered.

In tlio Southern and Western States, wliero derangements of the liver are so gonoral, Ayer'a Tills have proved an inestimable blessing. 1_. W. Baine, Kew Berne, N. C., writes

I suffered a long timo with stomach mid liver troubles. I tried various remedies, but received no benelit until 1 commenced taking Ayer's Tills. These lills benefited me at once. took tlieui regularly for a few months, and my health was completely restored."

Throughout Now England, next to lung diseases, Stomach unci IJowel Complaints arc tlio most prevalent.

Dy spepsia

and Constipation are almost universal. Mr. Gallacher, a practical chemist, of Koxbtiry, Mass., who was long troubled with Dyspepsia, writes "A friend induced me to try Ayer's Pills, and, after taking one box without much benelit, 1 was disposed to quit them but he urged perseverance, and, before I had finished the second box, 1 began to experience relief. 1 continued taking them, at intervals, until 1 had used eleven boxes. Sutliee it to say, that I am now a well man, and grateful to your chemistry, which outstrips mine."

Tho liend and stomach are always in sympathy hcnce the cause of most of those distressing headaehes, to which Homanv, especially women, are subject. Mrs. Harriet, A. Marble, of Toughkeepsie. N. V,, writes that for years she was a tturtvr to headache, and" never found anything to give licr more than temporary relief, until she began taking Aver's Pills, since which she has been in'the enjoyment of perfect health.

A Marion, Indians, coruptny which captured the first priz? at the Findlay, Ohio, natural gas jubilee, has sued for the JToO prize. The Findlay blow out seems to have exhavsted the town, as since then it has fallen into innoc ous deseutude. As we remember it all the ne^spipers in the country were iiiflicted wilh spread eagle descriptions of the "boom" display. The newspapers also should send in their biiia.

It is reported from Washington that 'western Democrats are displeased with Secretary Fairchiid's circular offering to prepay interest and to buy bonds. The Cincinnati J^npuirer of jeEterday voiccs this sentiment as follows:

Ksep yoor eagle eye on thft icark*t prioe of four-and-halfe, Mr. Secretary FtdrchilJ. This paper notified you when yonr prop»«itiRn to rnichaeo came out that before the dsy of opening tho propositions (Angnst 10th) tha msrket price won'.! hav-» risen 3 per cent. I lacks only *8 "f 1 per c«nt. of that prediotion no*-, and two ilnys to fco on. If you had gone on to the street qaietly yoa coald have bonght your bjcdi at the price prevailing ten daje ago. Bat, of course, yoa conld not do that—whatevf the vercmsnt does must be done openly. And that ,how why the government is in no position to Iny undne obligations at a premium. V''U want 12?,000,000 for tSe tinkirg fund. If on get it you mu»t bay at at lea»t 2 per cent., and very likely 8 per oent, higher than the bonds rated when jonr ptopc•ition was pot ont, with the knowledge tnat the advance wat is conseqaenoe of yonr ad*

The meeting called to extend an invitation to Mr. Cleveland was composed of both Democrats and Republicans, as nearly equally divided politically as yon can divide five, with no mugwump present. Mr. Cleveland accepts Mr Voorhees' invitation, bat that cordial invitation of the committee sent by telegraph is on Dm Lamont's table waiting for the type-writing cleik's leisnre to be answered. As if this were not enough to crush us, the Washington correspondent of the Enquirer pokes fun at ns:

Ez-Senator McDonald called at the white boose tJ-day, and presented the reeolulion of the Indianapolis board of trade, inviting the president to tarry at Indiana's capit 1 dniing his western trip. Mr. Cll invita£j(|Mlta(M|M conld renn^MMW* western thr^ngn ^rafiii' minatee at Terre Hsate, get a piesidential call also.

Of course tbe true pleasant and not notice the udeneea of guests, so it behooveB every cit s?n of Terre Haute to hide all mortification and be very thankful for the twenty minutes. This much is said Eub rcsa before the guest arrives.

Washington, August 9.—The commissioner of patents has rendered a decision in one cf the most important ques ions which his recently come belore the cflice. He holds that while a patentee is at liberty to employ such language and phrases as he elects, he is required to point out his particular invention so that the people msv not be deluded, nor the inventive genius of the public deterred or frightened from pursuits in the fane art or field of invent 03 by a patent containing equivocal claims which, in eSect, woulfl suppress ail further improvement.
