AMUSEMENTS.

Prof. Carl Knellon.

For an informal, almost accidental affairs, the piano recital yesterday rflernoon at the Kussner palace of music proved to be a musical surprise. Mr. Csrl Faelton took this opportnnity to rehearse with his pupil, Miss Aldan, who has just returned from the ston Conservatory of Music. A Beethoven concert and a ecore of friends who happened to be present heard asplend composition wtiich is not cf:en rendered. Two Licdemann piaaos, r.n up right and a square grand, in perfect tnne and ur.iean were used, Miss Alden playing the lirst piano or leading part ar.d Prof. Faelton, the second or orchestral part. The concert is more than a musical trills as it makes thirty five pages of music, requiring a3 many minutes to plav it, and yet Miss Alden played it all without nots. Perhaps this private rehearsal may not be subject for regular announcement notice but it is worth it, if only to call attention to the brilliant performance of a Terre Haute pupil of the treat pianist, who has c.mght romething of his wonderfully e'ear and distinct musical accentuation and has her own roticeabJe delicacy acd grace of pfrform.usce and a t-tvle of fingering which i^so 'ight and delicate as to seem to d^w tip! music from the keys instead of striking it out of them, li per fcrm.-nte this lor.g aid difficult work, h-r very evident teste ltd sympathetic perception of ihe C)mposr's thought promise many a future pleasurfs, let us hope, in more public displays when, it possible, we want to hear again the Beethoven concerts if adequate suppsrt be provided.

Germania Concert.

The Germania concert and gymnastic exhibition at Hulman park Sanday afternoon and evening was largely attend-

ed The programme consisting of ai overture by the Binego orchestra and vocal music by the mrennerctor were rtiKtical!y reuderet'. The Juvenile Tu nerf, numbering about thirty, gave a pretty exhibition of club swinging and wand exercis'8. The tab'e leaping in the fcf'erDOOU and parrllel har cxeicises in the evening, including Bchool fenctng with foils and club swinging by Mr. Carl Roth pleased everyone. It is to be hoped the OermaDia will soon give another enrtainment like this. The gymnastic purt of the programme WHS under the supeivision of Mr Oskar Duenueg, the turn master of the Germania society.
