The work of grading the ground for the new O. A M. machine shops at Washington, Ind., has began.

The Total Abstinence Society of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church had its annual parade and the ceremony of reobiigation at the church, on 8unday. The society is one of the most flourishing temperance organizations in the Btate.

On Saturday morning George MiUa, a carpenter, living in North Vincennes, while at work on the new paper mill, pot the fingers of his left hand caught in a revolving wheel, which wrenched it off at the wrist, tearing out the tendons al» most to tie elbow.

Two women, well dreewd and good looking, appeared in the streets of Logacsparf, last Saturday afternoon, in a state of beastly intoxication. They stopped a farmer and threatened to blow his braiiig oui, if he did not give them taoc? With which to buy more whiskey. The man retreated, screaming "murder," the women disappeared and have not since been heard from.

Miss Maggie Milan, of Knox county, cloeed her school last Friday. The patrons assembled and a picnic dinner was served. On Haturday afternoon George Busby, a resident r.f Honverville, Cass county, commuted suicide by shooting himself in the bead. He h»s been in financial difficulties for several years, and with the aid of his friends began operating a flouring mill at Hoovsrville in which ho was unsuccessful. He had had occasion recently to appear against a neighbor charged with treating one of his little gbla improperly, and this with his financial difficulties is siippowed to have weighed upon his mind, He walked the lioor all of Friday night, and the next day disappeared. He was traced to the mill and it was ascertained that hs had entered the building through a window. He was found in a graiu bin, in the fifth story, hanging from a beam by a halterstrap, with a bullet hole just above one cf his cars. The simp had been adjusted previous to the shooting to make the KgHUranee of death doubly certain, lie was a mail of high utaiidiufc uid excellent family, and his domestic relaliou* were peculiarly happy. Tebke Haute, lud., April 20th, 1887. S.-aied proposals will be reoeived by tho Common Connoil of the city of Terre Haute, Ind., at the next regular meeting, Tueeday evening, May 8rd, 1887, for collecting all the garbage that may be placed in veeeele, ae provided in seotion 18 of the eanit?ry ordinanee, adopted by said oounoil July 20th, 1880, ana removing the same to each plaoe or places as tho Board of Health of said city may deelg"nate. The said garbage is to be collected and removed in water-tight carta by 10 o'olock every other rr second morning, from May let to November 1st, and not leee than ones each week during the remainder of the year.

All bidders must be governed strietly by eaoh and every provision for the removal of garbage in said ordinaneee, which are on file in the office of oity olerk, and may be examined by persons desiring to bid.

Bids are to be eepamte for that district lying north of Wabash avenue, and numbered first, and that line south of Wabaah avenue and numbered second.

The contracts fei each district to ran for one year from the first day of May, 1887. A bond of $500 signed by two disintereeted sureties must accompany eaoh bid in order to guarantee the faithful entering into the contract by the person to whom the eame is awarded.

The council reeervae the right to reject any and all bids. By order of the Common Conneil, April 19, 1887.
