Without doubt, tbe most striking pro» duotion of the dramatic season is tha strong comedy-drama, "Shadows 0! a Gieat City," written by Mr. L. R. Shew* ell. The scenes of the play are laid ia and about New York oity, and the motive is the misfortunes of the child of tha discarded daughter of a millionaire, lova and honor figuring ia the play as well as suffering and crime. The scenic effects, which include inside views of a pawnbroker's sh*p, of the penitentiary on Black well's Island, of aNew York millionaire's mansion, and of a Harlem river boat house-, with a view of the East river thrown in, will make the piece a "go" with those who eDjoy the intrica-s-.es of double sets and revolving scenes. Miss Annie Werd Tifiany will fill her original role of Bid .iy Ranan, the bighearted Irish washerwoman Miss Helen Rand as Annie and Helen Standish Wm. S. Harfeins as Tom Cooper H. W. Herman as George Benson and other capable actors make up the cast. "Shadows of a Great City'' willb* presented in this city on F.-iday and Saturday, February 11th and 12th.
