lhe Gypsy Baron

The book of "The Gypsy Bjiron," which will be produced in this city next Tuesday evening, January 11, by the Conried English Opera company, is based upon a charmiBg novelette, by the famous Hungarian author, Maurus Jokai, and has been written for Johann Strauss by Herr Julius Schni(«er, a well-known Vienna librettist. It unfolds a romantic picture of Hungarian gypsy life during the last century. The company is the largeet and strongest that has ever been organized in this country for the production of light opera. The principal soprano part, Saffi, a gyp3y girl, will be taken by Miss Laura Bellini. Helen von Doenhoff, a high contralto, will present the part of Czipra, the gypsy queen. A pretty character is that of Aisena, a proud and coquettish beauty, which will be sung by Mtss Lydia O'Neil. The role of Bariukay, the gypsy baron, will be sung by Harry De Lorme, whose heroic tenor voice is admirably suited to the part. The comic character Z?upau, the pig dealer, will be presented by lhe well-known and popular coruedian, Jacques Kruger. Count Homonay, a Hungarian recruiting officer, will be given by -Ferdinand Urban, himself a Hungarian by birth. There is a funny old woman, Mirabella, who, after twenty-five years of separation, finds her long-lost husband again, Count Carnero, mnch to the letter's disgust. This amusing part will be given by Miss Jennie Reifferth. The part of the disappointed hnsband is taken by GiistaTUs F. Hall, while Signor Taglien, an excellent lyric tenor, will Ottocar, a sentimental lover.

The Missing Link.

Yesterday morning Supt. Law lor John Voit, Albert Overholtz, John Bodewin and an Express reporter went to tfc residence of Casper Link, who has been missing since New Year's eve, near the old site ol the distillery, A thorough search of the premises WBB made, the house from the basement to the garret, the barn, yard and outbuildings. The river was then visited, but wo trace could be found of the missing man. The case is certainly involved in great mystery and the police are determined to investigate the matter fully. It seems as though but little confidence is placed in the suicide Btory. Link disappeared on Friday night and on Bunday his grandson was married in the home whence the old man had left so mysteriously only two nightB previous,

Said a gentleman yesterday, who for years has been thoroughly familiar with old Caspar Link's habits of life "I do not understand this matter, but &m certain some one has dene the old man wrong. For years he has never been known to leave the house without his hat, pipe and cane. This time he had neither when he went away. He has not, to my knowledge, been in the habit of going near the river for a long time. I don't believe he waa drowned, but I do believe his body will be found not far from home, perhaps at the bottom of one of the holes down where the old distillery stood. I believe the old man was murdered."

Declared Insane,

Benjamin Head who fell down the stairway of the Boston house sometime since and was subsequently taken to the hospital and was discharged it being found impossible to control his violent actions, wa6 yesterday declared insane by a commission composed of Justices Wildy and Felsenthal, and ®rs. Spain and Stunkard. A careful examination of the unfortunate man left no other course to pursue. His insane condition ia thought to have been the result of .his terriable fall. He will be sent to the asylum.
