THS L'TTLE GIRL GOT ADOLL.
An Overwhelming Respouno to an A p. pe»l in BataalfoI^BPoorJUttleIayalld. New York
SUD.
A relative of "Aunt Fanny" Barrow, who is a physician in the Manhattan Eye and Ear hospital in Park avenue, said to hrr the other day, "Aunt Fanny, can't you do something for a little girl who is in the hospital, and has to remain in a oopi by herself because her disease is contagious?" Aunt Fanny thought she ould and so she published this paragraph in aNew York paper:
Will the kind children of this city send to Anat Fanny, at 80 east Thirtj-fifih street, •nine dolls and toja of wbieh ttier are tired, tor the poor little children who are Buffering ind lonely in the Eye and Ear Manhattan hos pitalin Park avenneT
Oue little girl has been in a room all by herIf for more than two months btcanse her disease is catching and a doll to her would be dear friend and plajn'ate.
The response to Vunt Fanny's notice have been indeed nerous for the mimbtr of dolls wLich have been sent, new and second hand, prim and battered, would tock a fair, and have served to bupply all the children in the ho*pi'al in question and" a great many more be-ides. "What could I do?" exclaimed Mr*. Barrow in despair last evening. "1 couldn't give 100 dolls to the little gi.l all alone in a room by herself. What was to become of my integrity The little ffirl to whom 1 gave the dolls overwhelmed, simply overwhelmtd, and then I asked leave of the donors to give them to other children."
Dolls continutd to pour iu. Some of the dolls whose noses bore the scars of play and affectionate banging about, and oiher dolls whose wearing appearel showed them to be creatures of wealth and social position. There were dolls of all sorts bui especially were thty high bred, well dressed dolls. Mrs. Borrow received a lot of other tbinjs also, including toys, books, wearing apparel, and money. First thj£% came an anonymous $10, and then the upressman delivered a box of toys "from Beatrice and Edith." Packages came from every direction un il Aunt Fanny's dining room looked like a toy show during stock takingseason. Sunday school classts sent in appropiate gifts, and children sent in birthday and Christmas money, often at personal sacrifice.
When the little ones in the Eye and Ear hospital bad been furnished with toys and keepsake*, Aunt Fa ny shared her bounty with an up-town Catholic afljlum and the Sheltering Arms. Fonr great boxes of all sorts of delightful thiags were shipped to Virginia yes'erdav and many dolls were sent to the Infant Ward at the Post Graduate hospital. The surplus will be sent to Bandall's Island, probably.
