AMUSEMENTS.
hi''" Hsi f«e-c t*. The eminent artiste, Marie Prescott, supported by B. D. McLean and herown powerful dramatic company, will give two performances to day. A splendi New Year's II hss been arranged. At themtioee, W. 8. We would like to impress upon oar readers the great importance of Miss Prescott's brief engagement. It will certainly ba a great dramatic treat. The old playgOttB who retain admirirg memories of Ma tilda Heron and Lucille Western in their prime, cannot afford to miss seeing Marie Pfesccti in "Czeka," while the vounger generation should not omit the present opportunity of seeing a womai who will, *8 surely as she lives, be recog nized eventually all over the nniverse as America'.^ greatest actress.
Tbe matinee prices are 25 and 60 cents evening, 25, 50 and 75 cents. The opera house should be crowded at both performance?. twwrw"-.^

The ferewell engagement, in this city, of this celebrated tragedienne will take place on Wednesday, January 5th. Madame Janauechek is one of the world's truly jgreat actresses. 8he has a voice that thrills and electrifies, and by its pleadi tones of anguish she wins from the stzongest heart emotion and sympathy. She holds her audiences spellbound by a more than wonderful magnetism and power of eloquence. After a .long career she is still the true representative of the heroic io ilrama, still the great Artiste whose methods are mode's. She is an ait who ombices in herown proper person an inGnite variety of dramatic quaiities. "the has a piwer and emotional force greater than Bistori, a nervous and firey n'ensity equal to B-tchel and a skill for elaboration and finish only eq lrd by Bernhardt. Janauschek will' appear in •er great role of ''Meg Merrilies," her latest and greatest su cess. It will be presented with all the original music, choruses, new and correct costumes.
The sale of »eits begins at Button's book store Monday morning. -«rv Minnie llladdtniin Caprice.
PROBABLY DROWNED.
Ca'pi Liok, am Aged Mm, Dtupp-sm 1mm Hoiue-Suppjsed to Have Been Drowned.
At an early hour yesterday C&sper Link, residing on First street near the distillery, left home and has since not been seen or heard of. He is quite an old man and walks with a cane. When he left yesterday he did not take his cane, overcoat or hat. When his absence was scovered search was immediately instituted for him but up until noon without success. Link's mind is some whit enfeebled by his old age, and it is feared that he might possibly have wondered to the river and suicided.
At 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon so trace had been found of Link. The search is still going on. His disappearance is very mysterious one.
Lite list night no traces of the mif sing man had been discovered, and it was thought that under a temporary alteration .of the mind he had wandered to tbe river, fallen into the water, and been swept down by the current.

The Mystery Deepens.
Last night a dispatch was received from Marshal Frank Morrison at Slater Mo., announcing that despite all efiorts' put forth by ths & A. railway com* pany and the relativee of the missing woman, no clue to the whereabduta of Mrs McAllister, who disappeared from a C- A A. train near Slater, on Tueaday last, h-d been discovered. Mis. McAllister's trunk and the balance of her effects, which hsd been left in her Beat in the car had been de'ivered to her son inlaw at Dodge ctiy, by the railway authorities. Ft is thought by her friends here that she has been made the victim of foul play and if the suspicions of soaetif her arqiaintances here are well founded the matter will, sooner or later develop into a cruel and moat sensational mnrder.
