The Indiana Methodist conference has condemned the use of tobacco as uncleanly and unhealthily pledging its ministers to preach against it once a year. This will meet the approval-of persons to whon? the habit is painfully offensive.

Creameries have been established in several connties in the southern part of the state, and are found to be safe and profitable investments. Eight cents a allon is paid for milk, or cream only is .ought, at thirteen cents a gauge, the quantity necessary to make one pound of butter.

There are more men now out of employment in Crawfordsville than have ever be$n known in the history of the town, making allowance for the growth of population. There has been little building, and carpenters, plasterers and brick-masons will be able to get through the winter only by exercising the most rigid economy

James Howard, who was arrested in Vincennen and placed in jail several weeks ago, charged with bastardy, has been taken to Illinois on a requisition. When arrested ninety-seven pocket knives, several revolvers and a kit of burglar's tools were found in his possession, He has already served two terms in the Joliet penitentiary.

While intoxicated, Jacob Clave, of Muncie, went to tb6 residence of Prior Wood during his absence and grossly insulted his wife. He was ordered away but returned in a little while, and Mrs. Wood again requested him to leave. He refused to do so, when she shot him in the face with a 22-calibre pistol. This failing to have the desired effect, she struck him on the haad with a stone, which was unerringly aimed, and which knocked him senseless. When he recovered sufficiently he departed to have his wound dressed.

Carl Ebert, whose wife was sent to the insane asylum several weeks ago, was horribly chopped with a hoe by a man named Joseph Watson. After Ebert's wife was sent to Indianapolis he was fined on Watson's complaint for assaultir her, and, in default of payment, was sent to iil for thirty^days. During his imprisonment Watson appropriated most of Ebert's goods which were stored in a small building on h's premises. The doctor and his wife, after this, also concluded to help themselves to his potatoes, and when the latter objected, attacked him with the hoe. He fled to a neighbor's house, but was pursued and over--taken. The woman, seizing Ebert, who is a small, slight man, held him while her husband struck him in the face w:th the blunt hoe until he was senseless, his eyes torn out, and the flesh reduced to a bruised and bleeding mass. The Watsons were arrested, and say that they had bought the potatoes of Ebert and that he made the first assault.

A SAD OCCURRENCE..

How an Unexpected Breaking Down Re mlsd tBi Danger of Over Many of Oar Xeadfnie CWMH

A nicely dressed gentleman was walk ing along Pennsylvania avenue, in Wash ingtou, a few daya since, and without any warning fell upon the sidewalk in a state of insanity. He was placed in an ambulance wid sent to the hospital, when), npon examination, it was found that he bad not been overcome by the heat^bat that, although in apparently perfect health, his system had become so reduced in tone that natnre was forced to give way. Such cases are becoming alarmingly common ef late, and to such an extent as to demand serious attention apd^ investigation. People have slight head aches, bnt consider them as nothing. A tirtd feeling they attribute to the weather, Occasional pains are thought to be only colds. But without any special c*use, without any definite reason, the vital power of many persons becomes undermined unknown even to the people them' selves, and it is only when some sudden giving way and breaking down occurs that they realize the grave danger they are in.

The fact is nearly every man, woman and child needs something to sustain and build up the life nearly all the while. But it must be something that is nervebuilding, blood-making and health-giv-ing. Such a preparation has been found in Volina Cordial which is becoming 80 wonderfully popular. It is a rare combination of strengthening and healing ingredients and is superior to any Known preparation of modern times. The amount of albumen it imparts to the system is simply wonderful. For overworked men, delicate women and sickly children it comes not only as a tonic, but as a food. It revives the life that is at low ebb.

There is no season of the year when the vital forces of life do not require to fee. most carefully guarded. Intoxicants are, injurious: adulterated and badly prepared food clog the system without nourishing but albumen not only sustains life, but adds a vigor and force that are simply wonderful. Few men and fewer women realize how great a discovery thiB Volina Cordial is bqt it is gratifying to know that thousands are understanding and taking advantages of the oppor tunities offered by its introduction, and we look fer grand results from its use in the renewed life and activity of the American people.
