The Germania Society gave a new year's eve* dancing reception at Turner Hall last night that was largely attended and very much enjoyed.

A large number of citizens of Fayette township were^before the grand ury yesterday. The big fight at Sandford Chistmas night will be investigated.

John Robison- was arrested on Main street nearthe Western Union telegraph office last night for creating a disturbance and flourishing a revolver.

A horse and buggy, held at Campbell's livery stables under attachment were spirted out yesterday and Deputy Constable Thompson has given the case to the police.

The Electric Light company have found it necessary to remove the poles on Main from Eighth street to Thirteenth-and-a-half street, and put in poles ten feet higher.

Pimento postoffice transacts more business than any postoffice in the county .outside of Terre Haute. Fontanet comes next, followed closely by Coal Bluff, St Mary's and Macksville.

The attorney? for the plaiatiff in the case of Freeman vs. JEleagin and Fellenzer, commenced their arguments yesterday. It is probable an issue will not be reached before the first of the coming week. 0

Postmaster Began says there is a noticeable difference in the bueiness of the post office during Normal vacations. Normal students receive a large number of letters and money orders and registered letters daily. ~,

The Grand opera house was filled with a large gathering of our Irish citizens and their friends last nighl, the occasion being the annual ball of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. The entertainment as a whole was a marked success.

The quarterly deposits from the postoffices in the Terre Haute district will be made soon. The Terre Haute' district embraces the counties of Vigo, Parke, Vermillion, and portions of Sullivan, Edgar, Clark, Crawfoid and Coles counties, the last four being in Illinois.

Mrs. Cole^who shot Dennis Golden, while attempting to break into her house, a few weeks ago, returned from the country Wednesday, where she has been since the shooting.
