Wesley Martin{ who has been held in jail for the past sixteen days on a charge of larceny, was yesterday brought before Judge Mack, who released him on his own recognition.

A pastoral letter recently issued from the bishopof this Catholic diocese, directs that on Christmas morning a collection for the benefit of the poor shall be made in all the churchee in nis jurisdiction.

The grand jury adjourned yesterday until after. the holidays. The adjournment, was, in part, caused by the inability of the prosecuting attorney to be present at their meetings on account ol ill health.

An Asylum Physician's Opinion] of Harmon. Sherifi1 deary, returned yesterday morn* ing from a visit to the insane asylum, at Indianapolis. While there he made inquiries as to the condition of Harmon, the slayer of Carpenter. Dr. Thomas, superintendent of the male department, said that Harmon is insane, and that he was insane when he killed Carpenter. Harmon has improved somewhat, and has begun to talk.
