A Taffy Pulling at. a Mock Wedding. Spaetal Dispatch to tha Exprsaa. MARSHALL, 111., Nov. 24.—Miss Kilty Chenowith is visiting relatives in Atherton, Indiana. Mrs. Jacob Holler returned home yesterday from Terre Haute where she had been visiting relatives for several days. The emall-pox scare turns out to be groundless. It was currently reported on the streets Friday and Saturday, and your correspondent had it from what WM considered good authority, but it turns out to be nothing but old woman's gossip. Dr.Campbell investigated the case, and found that the story was manufactured out of whole cloth, as the whele family were in good health. Ben McKeen, of Collinsville, visited friends here yesterday. Ed Harlan is in Springgeld. Ed Henbest haa moved back on his farm about a mile south of the city. —Mrs. John Rector and her son Will are visiting relatives in New Goshen, Ind. The taffy-pulling at Miss Susan Quick's Saturday evening was a very enjoyable affair. There was a large number of the young folks present, not withstanding the bad weather. A feature of the evening's entertainment was mock wedding, in which two couples were tied in the highest style of the art. The thermometer registered 8 degrees above zero this morning at 6:30 o'clock. The sudden change is rather uncomfortaable. We had quite a little snow yester. day morning, but the ground was so wet that it melted a» fast as it felL Mrs. H. C. Kester, of Paris, has been visiting the family of E. C. Miller for several days.

THE MARKETS,
OHfCAGO REVIEW.
1
Corn is weak and although the premium on cash corn which has for some time existed still continues, all fear of serious manipulation seems to have been dissipated. There are many lots of contract grades, however, still held off the mark by scattered parties who still believe in the possibility of a squeeze, and short sellers who desiring to cover, contracts for this month have to do so in the force of light offerings out. Without concentrated, purchases there appears no reason to expect an important advance. Other options are offered freely, and current prices for the deferred futures are regarded by many as low enough, but the prevailing feeling is bearish, and should receipts largely increase, as it is generally expected, somewhat lower quotations seem probable. Trading iB almost altogether local and speculative, there being little or no corn offered from the corn sections of the west. Without doubt there is an immense amount of new corn being fed to hogs and cattle this fall, and the result of this will tell on the meat question farther along, and partially explains tha backwardness of holders in sending the crop to market.
Receipts of hogs are heavy and prices for the same are weak and lower. There is yet considerable disparity, however, between the value of the product and the raw material which caused packers to limit their hog buying to the minimum capacity of their houses. This results in many hogs being daily left over and as low-priced material is absolutely necessary when product is relatively lower conservative dealers think the adjustment of values this year will come through a decline in the price of the hog.

CHICAGO, November 24, 1834.
The wheat deal is the leading feature on 'change and a marked improvement is noticeable in the volume ana quality of business transacted. A buoyant tone characterizes the market and there seems to be a renewal of speculative activity and a partial recovery from recent apathy and indifference. Other articles, however, still remain slumpy. The near approach of the close of navigation has no effect in stimulating shipments, those of wheat remaining almost nominal, while for corn and oats the demand is below the supply, and some additions are made to stocks in store.
Lester is buying wheat and the boys are circulating stories of combinations formed in New York for the purpose of pushing prices to 80c. To these facts and to stiff cables many ascribe the present strength and decare that it is only a temporary bulge due to manipulation, but there area great many others who believe the lowpointfor the season has already been seen, and that from this time on there will be a gradual hardening of values. Farmers' deliveries have certainly largely decreased, and there is abetter demand from investors who express a determination to take the property off the market. The promptness witn which other markets appreciate in response to the advance here likewise contributes to increase the confidents of the bulls, and iB pointed to by them as an evidence of the growing faith in the intrinsic value of the article. The official report of the State of Michigan says the acreage seeded to wheat this year is 94 per cent, of the same'time last year, while advices from Minnesota and Dakota say that not much over one-half the fall plowing has been done this year compared with the same date a year ago indicating that the farmers of those regions do not intend sowing-near as much wheat the coming spring, unless prices and conditions show a radical change. Reports from sev eral sections in Kansas say that the winter wheat crop looks bad, in many places being sickly and thin while from other sections of Kansas and Missouri they continue to tell of extensive damage by Hessian fly. All these things together with the abnormally low price now current make the bears cautious about any considerable lines.
