The Hon. John J. Cooper, Demo cratic candidate for state treasurer, is sending out pasters to Republicans, through J. E. Sullivan, of Indianapolis, who has an extensive acquaintance in this portion of the Wabash valley. Mr. Sullivan has branch houses in this city and Vincennes, and is using his acquaintance with Republicans to aid his friend, Mr. Cooper. The Express received the following letter yesterday: To the Editor of the Express: 8ib: Yesterday's mail brought the enclosed letter containing a few pasters with the name of John J. Cooper, Democratic candidate for treasurer of state, printed on them, and asking that they be used on the Republican tickets. Although unacquainted *»th the writer, it wonld be a pleasure to render the favor if any cause were shown for not supporting Mr. Shiel, our own candidate. Under the circumstances it will be impossible to eotnply with the request, and knowing no Democrat who has enough influence to indnce any Republican to use thejpasters, have sent them with the letter to yob, hoping that you ma be able to find one some where within the bounds of the territory traversed by your paper. Paris, 111., October 31.—The campaign closes here Monday night by a speech from. Colonel Van Sellar, in the Academy of Music, and not on Saturday night as incorrectly reported.

Company A of the Illinois cavalry held a re-union to day. A magnificent dinner, prepared by Paris ladies, was 8pread,and though not so many were present as were expected, a good time was had by all. There were eighteen survivors of the company present who went from this country in 1861.

The Democrats have suddenly discovered the need of funds to carry Edgar county back to the place it climbed up from in 1882, at which time it went overwhelmingly Republican. The scarcity of the genuine has been supplemented by bogus greenbacks. It is said a whole barrelful of the spurious stuff is on band to catch the floating vote of Tuesday next.

Printed BlipB, or stickers, are being delivered by them to paste on over the name of Dick Oglesby, for governor. These slips have the name "Carter Harrison printed on them.

The way the tide is setting in may be judged from the fact that common street talk, on every hand, takes on the form of sympathy expressed for the present Democratic incumbents, when left out in the cold Tuesday. That they will be left is accepted as true.

A gentleman of some means offered to-day to put up $500 that New York state will go for Cleveland. A Republican standing by said he did not care to put up $500 on that result, but would bet $1,000. The first said he was not betting his own money, but could probably raise the $1,000. He has not yet, so far as heard from.

THE MARKET BASKET.

The Season of Good Living What It Costs. The season of good living is approaching, and the grocers are preparing for it. The cold weather makee turkeys very palatable, also roast chicken, oysters, duck and game of all kinds. Cranberries will soon be cheap, and people loving good living can eat to their stomach's content or discontent as the case may be. Cranberries (forgoodne88 sake don't say "cramberries": are selling for loc per quart, the very best two quarts for 35c. Sweet potatoes are 25c a peck, a very reasonable price. Irish potatoes are 25c to 60c a bushel, and will probably go higher. SquasheB are selling for 5c to 15c, and turnips 20c peck. Onions are 30c to 40c peck, and cabbage 5c to 15c per head. Grocers will sell you three oyster plants for 25c, and a stalk of celery for 5c. Pumpkin pie is in full bloom, and one of the cheapest pies made, pumpkin that will make fifteen twentv pies can be had for 10c,

Country butter is 20c to 25ca pound, and creamery (generally country worked over) 35c. Eggs are 20c. Chickens are I2jc per pound, turkeys 16}c, ducks 40c a piece, quails $1.75 per dos«n, and rabbita two for 25c. It if

Thi email is collected from Street Lettei Boxes on Main street, from First tc Twelfth streets, north on Fourth to Cherry, south on Fourth to Walnut and soutb on First to Poplar, and on Ohio between Firstand Sixth, every week day betweer 8 and-9 a. m., between 9 and 10 a. m. between 12and 1 p. m. and between 7:30 and 8:20 p. m. All other boxes are collected twice a day, between the hours of 7 and 10 a. m., and between 3:30 and 6:00 p. m.

On Sunday the Post Offioe is open from 9 to 10 o'clock a. m., and persons desiring their mail can call at the window designated by the number of their oarrier.
