NEIGHBORHOOD POLITICS,

The Hoi. B. &F. Peirce Addresses nig Meeting Brazil—The Hon. Sam. uel Mason at Eugene.

BRAZIL, Ind., October 3.—The Hon, R. B. F. Peirce spoke at Center Point last night to a magnificent audience of over one thousand persons. Most of the towns in the central part of the county were represented by delegations, so that the crowd was one,of the largest ever assembled ou any political occasion in that part of the county The people are said to have beeh highly delighted with Mr. Peirce's speech and listened to him with the utmost attention through two hours. Sugar Ridge township is making an excellent showing, and if gains do not tion present

appear there at the eleci appearances deceive us. EUGENE, October 3.—Notwitbstand' ing the great heat last night a large crowd turned out to hear the Hon.

uel R. Mason, of Pennsy vania, on the politics of the day. The audience com prised, besides the Republicans, many ladies and some Democrats, and at the close of his speech the audience was complimented by the speaker for the good order maintained. Perrysville sent down a large delegation headed by the Plumed Knights' marching club. This club deserves special thanks from all Republicans for thus turning out last night, for they had been at Danville, 111., the day before and did not get home until daylight yesterday morning. Tired as they were, they made a fine show in marching last night. Your correspondent is informed that at Danville they deservedly received the highest praise for their drill. Newport also sent up a large delegation, headed by their fine

citizens generally. After marching through the principal streets a halt was made at the wigwam, which was soon filled to overflowing by the citizens. Many could not get seats. A count showed nearly 500 in the building, and from 200 to 300 outside. After singing by the Galloway Glee club of Newport,, the speaker was introduced by the Hon. Robt. B. Sears, Republican candidate for representative from this county, (by the by Bob will be elected, too) in a few well chosen words. Mr. Mason, although suffering from the severe heat, gave just what was wanted, a plain, square talk to the people en a matter of interest to all, the only question of issue—the tariff. He was listened to with attention, for he made the subject interesting and in-, structive. His delivery was easy and Dleasant and his words well chosen. It was a good sound "horse sense" speech,as we say in the "rowdy west." Mr. Mason called attention to the great grief of Gov. Hendricks and other Democratic speakers on the large sums of money now held in the vaults of the United States treasery, and the anxiety of Gov. Gray to distribute this sum to the people at the rate of $8 per head. Mr. Mason in a few words gave a very plain explanation of the reason of this large reserve. After the speaking the Galloway fam-

with great pleasure by all. Not one person offered to leave the wigwam

until the Galloways could not be induced to continue. We think we had a big time for a little Democratic township.
