The Weak and the Impure. The^ merry little mountain brook, as it lightly dances over the rocks
UMU. ii acuve uieieiuie, li IS healthy. It it vigorous therefore, it resitfts imparity.
But the doggish pool, where the current is not strong' enough to keep the water ia nation, is stagnant and foul. Dirt and rubbish are thrown into it, and stay there. Impurities and vile odors make it a breeder of disease and an object to be avoided.
When the blood is strong and rich and red, and vigorously courses its accustomed rounds through arteries and veins, the system is hearty and 'healthy.
When the blood is thin and poor and weak, impurities and defilements creep into it, and it has no strength to cast them out. Then the system runs down.

Brown's Iron Bitters contains the 'only preparation of iron which cai. enricfi the blood, and make it pure, vigorous, and healthy. A dollar a bottle, at the nearest druggist's. 9

RAILROAD RECORD.
Items of Interest Concerning Bailroads and Railroaders.
Local Mention.
Vandalia west-bound passenger No. 1 was an hour late yesterday, owing to the Panhandle being delayed.
Col. John Lee states that the old Anderson, Lebanon & St. Louis, now the Cleveland, Indiana & tit. Louis, will be built froir Noblesville to Paris, ill., this summer.
Engine 19, which has been undergoing a course of general Overhauling at the Van shops, was completed yesterday and sent out to take charge of the steam shovel on the east end.
The Yandalia freight men report a marked increase in the west-bound freight traffic yesterday. Freight i« now being moved by many" of the road? that have been flooded. This reported increase is, no doubt, due to that and also the fact that business in general is picking up a little.
Travel on the Bee Line and & I. St. L. for the last sixty days has been heavy—beyond parallel for winter months. The misfortunes of the southern lines have been of marked benefit to this route. For a couple of weeks the southern through lines from the west to the east were more or less blockaded by snow then came the floods, which were still more troublesome.
A. Gregg, master of transportation of the C., H. & D. lines, will remain with the road until March 1st. Hig promotion on the East Tennessee, Virginia & Georgia road is that of assistant superintendent, at a salary of $3,500 a year. Ten years ago he was a. telegraph operator at Hamilton, was promoted to train dispatcher by L. WilliamB, dismissed when Barrett was made superintendent of the road, and was reinstated when the road passed under the general management of C. a Waite.
Indianapolis Journal: Han is 4 Carter's railway scraper and leveler has now been in use on the Vandalia and Indianapolis & St. Louis roads nearly a year, and has performed admirably. The Cincinnati, Indianapolis, St. Louis & Chicago and the Ohio & Mississippi are about to put it in service on their roads, and D. L. Harris, the inventor, is arranging to go east to introduce it. By a novel arrangement the scraper and leveler can be made to clear the snow from the track fourteen feet, which, in yards, would often be'a great convenience.
Personal.
R. S. Campbell, of the C. & E. I., has gone to Vincennes. V\ D. Wishart, general passenger agent of the "Fris-jo Line," was in the city yesterday.
H. W. Hibbard, general freight agent of the Vandalia, was in the city, yesterday.
P.
CS.
