The deserving combination which appeared last night was unfortunate in dropping in between the two greatest attractions of the entire season. The audience was cold and the OperahouBe was also. The play is one to interest large houses the characters are nu' mr!rous and each of importance. The heroine, Mabel Renfrew, is well given by the popular Jane Coombs, who invests many passages with pathetic interest and dramatic force. She is supa respectable company. It oped that Miss Coombs can appear here again and soon, under more favorable circumstances.
Lights o* London.
To-night the first presentation of "Lights o' London" will be given. A Newark paper says: "The Grand opera house would not hold the people who went there last evening to witnefis the first production of "Lights o' London." Never has a drama been produced in Newark with the success that attended this play. The scenic effects were magnificent in every respect, while the cast was particularly strong. It is just this class of performance that will make Newark theaters popular, as there was not one item lacking to make it a great success. It will le repeated every evening this week, and the seats are nearly all taken for each performance."
The Abbott Opera.
The Emma Abbott opera company will sing next Monday night at the Opera house, in "King For a Day," an opera greatly praised for its beautiful music and gorgeous setting, and one never before given here. ,'
