A farmer's team attached to a wagon loaded with potatoes ranaway on south Second street yesterday. The farmer, whose name is Gray, and from Prairie Qjtek township, was badly bruised attempting to. stop them. The potatoes were scattered. It took three men all afternoon to pick them up. '•li:

Mr. E. J. Dougherty, a most genial knight of the road and one of tbe biggest little men that ever carried a sample trunk, is at the Terre Haute house. He represents the Samuel Cupples Woodenware company, of St. Lonis. Mr. D. will remain in the city until tomorrow, and in the mean time will pay his distinguished respects to our business men.

Washington special to Conrier-Jour-nal: Senator Yoorhees left for New York this afternoon. He will go from there Wednesday niglit to Indianapolis, where he will remain several dayp. He will then visit his home in Terrie Haute for a few days,' and return to Washington abont the 20th. He is much pleased over the Kilbourne verdict, and thinks the government will settle the judgment of the court.

Power of Money,

The second night did not draw much money for the G. A. R. The aodience seemed to show more appreciation than at the first performance. The scenery attracted attention, for it is really very- fine. The second-act-with its setting of the old French Market, the entrance of the policeman and some lively action is quite interesting. This, and the fourth act with the animated JoUands (Mr. Drew and Miss Sanson) save the play from general dullness. The pleasant comedians were great favorites, and were encored: several times. The pony when picked upbore tbe appearance of having been ridden very hard, and his tail had been trimmed of the hair. The Baddle taken with the pony was also found near Greenup lying on the road side. The thief probably rode the horse until he gave out and then turned him loose.
