The cold nail feeders held a meeting at Martin's Ferry, Ohio, a short time since, at which a delegation from Wheeling, W. Va., was present. The Kittanning, Pa., rolling mill is idle, in consequence of a broken roll, and will not be in readiness for operation again until next week, owing to their inability to have a new one made promptly, Had the firm kept duplicate rolls on hand great less of time and business would have been saved. This fact is now no doubt fully appreciated by the Kittanning proprietors.
Negotiations were concluded Monday transferring the entire property of the Southern States Coal, Iron and Land Company, consisting of thousands of acres of land, two of the largest blast furnaces in the United States, iron works, etc., to the Tennessee Coal, Iron and Railroad Company headquarters at Nashville. The Southern States Coal, Iron and Lmnd firm was established at South Pittsburg, Marion county, Tenn., by English capitalists. This consolidation constitutes the most extensive manufacturing and mining enterprise in tha South.
Manager Williams, formally of the Keystone mills, Pittsburg, Pa., has a very ingenious contrivance which he intends to test when the rolls of Brown, Bocnell & Co's new mill at Youngstown are set in motion. It consists of a screw to be placed beneath the rolls which will catch the cinder from the iron as it passes through the rolls. The screw revolving will carry the cinder to the end of the rolls and dump it into a pit whence it can be easily removed. Hitherto the cinder has fallen under the rolls and piled upj having to be extricated with shovels. I( the contrivance works satisfactorily Mr. Williams will have it patented.
But faw persona in Youngstown, Ohio, aside from the proprietors and employes of the mills have any definite idea of. the number of puddling furnaces operated in that city and the amount of muck bar produced every twenty-four hours during rix of the' seven days in a week. A reporter recently visited the several mills and received the following figures from the proprietors aa to the number of furnaces each had in operatios Youngstown rolling mill company, 21 Andrews Bro'e. & Co., 21 Cartwright, McCurdy & Co, 31 Mohoning Valley Iron Company, 63 Brown, Bonnell & Co., 126. Total, 264. Each of these furnaces will average two tone of muck bar every twenty four lionr*, amounting to 528 tons per day or 3,168 tons every six days. Substantially the whole amount is converted into i: erchant iron. Th-w figures give eome idea of the standing 'Youngstown baa in th* iron world.

Prohibition i» Kansas. ,1 :Va'
Editor of the Express In your editorial in Friday morning'T paper on "Prohibition in Kansas," you say that the question of Prohibition has been long ana persistently discussed and that "the arguments have besn so numerous and the statements of faeta (so called) so conflicting that it is the next thing to impossibility to form a correct judgment on the subject." Yoir then go on, to give the aide of the anti prohibition ifits, mainly, as given by a correspondent of the Chicago Tribune. As what you have published in yonr paper, so far as I have observed, is rather unfavorable to Prohibition, will yon please publish the accompanying letter from Gov. Ind., JacI 13,1882.
On the 22d day of JDseember, 1881, I noticed your .publication in fuU of the ruling apd decision of Judge Bhoads in the superior court, in a case of libel, wherein I was the plaintiff and Chris topher C. Trinkle was defendant. It wss published in fall in both daily and weekly of above date, occupying nearly one column. I did not intend calling yonr* attention to the matter, as I consider you have a perfect right to publish any court proceedings ycrtf think. proper but it being only the sustaining of a demurer to the complaint, and not a final decision of the ease, it amounted to thw only: that my lawyers would have to amend their complaint. But your gublicatioh has certainly given the defendant a little notoriety at my expense, unless you had given the particulars in full. You can uot but admit, if you carefully read that article, my character and reputation are left in a mist, while the defend nut is made the hero. I have a large circle of
friends and patrons who are con-tan: read era of yonr paper, and I am frequently interrogated in regard to that artftfte of December 22d, 1881 and though late in making this request, I feel justified in re .tpectfully requesting yon to publish this card and the particulars of this case, which I here give you, which contains the troth and cannot be contradicted.
In the firet place I weald say Trioklfe was a perfect stranger to me., I did not know him, nor ever ?poke to him nor had a bottle of his medicice or counterfeit of same m' niy hauda iu t^y life. Neither had he smy claims on of an form whatever In June of 1881,1,was in the South on business. On returning home I called at the Evansvlle postoffice for my mail matter which bad been forwarded to that point. With it I found ft card from Trinkle Btating he heard I was selling Trickle's Ague To^ic, and aeked if it was the genuine or the counterfeit said an early reply would oblige him as well as myself. I considered it an abrupt and ia.-ol-ent manner of adrersing a stranger, bui neverthelesst wrote' a card before leaving the office, Btating I knew nothing about either his genuine or counterfeit medicine. I had never to!d either, nor ever had a bot'.le of either io my hand in my life. Without waiting for* thifr Tn3Wer, he dispatched a second postal card through the mtil—the one yoti publish-—in which he threatened to Eend an officer in pursuit of me. Of urse I felt indicnant and immediately went to Terre Haute and counseled Lawyer Buff. He s.aid it was an actionable offerise, but I had bet-' ter eee Trinkle and fce ir what h? had to a iy* I called at his house. IJe admitted sending the p^rds: said, he was mad with parties in Terre Haute anS warned me for a witneer. I told Min i-knew noihiag of Iris business, and be Had done we a great wrong in sending such scurrilous matter through the mail on postal cards. He said he knew he had done wrong, and would publish a card of pology in the daily, papers. I told him he could consult toy lawyer, and any arrangement he made with him would be satisfactory to. me. He did not call, consequently complaint was filed in the Superior court at Terre Haute, with the results as you published Decembir 22d, 1881.
By complying with my earnest request to i?ive ipace f,r ibis card iu your daily, and tlie Weekly Exprexs of January 18th/you will confer a great favor, and in a manner show both ride* of the caHe.

The board of health will shortly issue a circular directed to the manufacturers, railroad managers and agents, police and fire departments, recommending that the various employes of these institutions be vaccinated. In view of tbe constant dangers we are in of having small pox brought into our midst this will be a very proper recommendation. In Chica go the police and fireJforce have ail been vaccinated by order of the authorities, and in the east a number of railroads and manufacturing establishments are having their employes vaccinated. Statistics all prove that general vaccination will prevent an epidemic, and if done after an epidemic is started, will arrest its progreiB.

Are you disturbed at night and broken of your rest by a sick child suffering and crying with the excruciating pain of cutting teeth? If so, go at once and get a bottle of MRS. There is not a mother on earth who has ever used it, who will not tell you at once that it will regulate the bowels, and rest to the mother, and relief and health to the child, operating like magic. An Enviable Reputation.
It is with pleasure we allade to the manufactures of the well known chemists. Joseph Burnett & Co., of Boston. They have won by their merits and attractiveness a place beyond that occupied by any other similar manufactured goods in this country.
Their Cocoaine for the hair, and a superior Cologne water, have become famous for their excellence.
In addition to these preparations are Burnett's Standard Flavoring Extracts for cooking purposes, and we can not show better evident of their superiority than by referring our readers to the testimonials of all the leading popular hotels in the country. These are published in Burnett's Floral Hand-Book, an attractive and valuable little pamphlet which is distribated gratuitously by the trade.
All respectable dealers sell Burnett's select ooda, and all lovers of choice things will do well to buy them in preference to Ihe cheap and impure articles now in the market.'
