Doolittle don't deny.
The 2few York Sun is satisfied that Charles O'Conor will accept the nomination of the Louisville convention if it is tendered him.
There are three hundred and fifty radical candidates for the Spanish Cor*%tes. The republicans of Spain are up and doing.
.t The Lafayette Dispatch says that fGreeley men were hired by Grant men to carry torches in the Republican procesgion Thursday night. This is complimentary to Greeley voters.
tH A 8PLH occurred in the South CaroHfV" 'na Republican convention on Thursday. J. L. Orr and others withdrew on account «fo£ the nomination of F. J. Moses for Attorney General, charging corruption upon ojthat gentleman,
The nomination of General Dix for Governor of New York by the Republi^tcans is estimated by all classes to be a 'iiOo jflfltrong one. Even the Herald and Tribune admit that this movement' was wise on •Ck) ii^e Part Republicans.
"?l The Missouri Republican made ^his .S'4 s, '^nnpuncoment when Mr. Revels, of MIssissippi, was elected to the Senate: "A thousand dollar nigger elected to the
United States Senate!" Democratic oditors of the good year 1872, have forgotten iow the word "nigger" looks.'
The Philadelphia Labor Reformers,
r's'^convention
has decided to preBent the
lu names of Charles O'Conor, of New York, and Senator Saulsbury, of Delaware, to the Louisville convention in September •for nomination for the Presidency and ^H^Vice-Presidency.
Won't it look a little funny to hear
tstout
,:"of
pro-slavery Democrats, negro-haters
old, cheering for Horace Greeley on "~*a radical platform, and expressing bittcr,_est detestation for Charles O'Conor, a life-long Democrat, standing on a platform made of all the principles for '-which Democrats have cared or fought """'in the past? And yet this is the spectacle —ahead of us.
It is a queer fact that all Democratic pffice-holder8 whose terms do not, expire
this .".year keep clear of the Greeley movement, or give it, at best, a feeble support. They don't know what peculiar .i -^policy they may be called on to support wiour years hence. Maybe Mr. Spotted '"Tail will be the standard bearer around he os a to be at he

"PoKER". joumalism exists nowhere in America outside of Louisville. The editor of the Courier-Journal draws his happiest similes from the noble game of (j* h?«'draw," and the Commercial revels in .r' polcerian arguments. For instance,. it says in its issue of Thursday that the
Courier-Journal "is utterly incapable of fairness to the Republican party, as it is of betting its pile on a queen full, when it knows that four kings are out against „JU."
The New York Times makes the following offer to Reformer Doolittle if he chooses to challenge the authenticity of the letters proving his dishonesty: "Let him name an umpire of his own choosing. We will name a second. These two shall name a third—and to these three persons we will submit the whole of the correspondence, in its original form, and accept their decision upon it whatever it may be. Is that fair? Or is there any other test to which we can bring Doolittle? Let him name it, if there is, and we will -do our best to meet his views."
DEFAMATION.

The Louisville Courier-Journal is a newspaper which abounds often in lectures upon the decencies and cburtesies of journalism. It is severe in its corn demnation of all manner of animosity and hate, and it is the blatant apostle of for••^iveness and kindness. It deliberately

•—to arprominent Republican. -It charges- .. .thatlSfenator Morton is suffering from an .. insidious and loathsome disease, the re--o^ suit of lustful debauchery. Now the '^Quigyiiie paper cannot prove this charge —Irtais been made in this state and it has been denied by the highest authority. It is a huntedrdown and exploded lie. In'iiax'l? diana yields the palm to no state in the union' for mean, vicious and unscrupu-
IbUs Democratic newspapers, and yet these journals, hating Mr. Morton with the, earnestness peculiar to little starved isouls, have ceased to repeat this calumny, 3ut it is not merely because of the untruth of the accusation that the Courier-Journal offends against decency. Suppose that Mr. Morton does suffer such affliction, does it impair his arguments^ weaken the force pf his words? Does the Courier-Journal attempt to relute his speeches by the assertion that, long back in the past, his life was impure and he was the victim of a terrible misfortune? Does it assert that its own managers, and prominent Democrats generally have been white, Josephs of purity? "What has become of its boasted charity? Is tMs virtue stored away for use only jwhen the late enemies of the government, are under discussion?
The Courier-Journal should cease to lecture Upon the decencies of journalism and upon the practice of Christian charity. Jt is conducted upon the principle that every prominent opponent of the Greeley movement is to be slandered, abused and misrepresented. All supporters of Greeley are gentlemen all friends of Grant are vile and disreputable. This is its captivating argument, its conclusive logic /fulfils:

Last year the total importation ofpig iron amounted to 510,686 tons. The cost of building furnaces equal te the 000 tons a year would* not amount, according to the New York Bulletin, to over $1,500,000. There is little doubt that increased capital amounting to niuchi more than this sum will be invested in the manufacture of iron in this, city and in the, adjacent coal fields during the n^xt two years. When, America cease?, to import iron, our whole system pf"pfotection as applied to" this branch of indus» try will become inoperative, inasmuch as the ore and coal of the country are inexhaustible.
