A COKIIESPOXDEKT relates a touching incident which occurred in the Philadelphia Convention on Wednesday during the speech of WM. A. OKAY, colored delegate from South Corolina •He referred in moft feeling terms to the services GBBRITT-SMIT.U had rendered his race, and said that "To-day, for the first time, 6od has pleased me" with the sight of the grand, noble old man GfifiBirr SirtTn [applaufee], who stood by us and for us when we coald not stand for ourselves. [Tremendous applause.] The sight of him repays me for all the toil, all the suffering, all the pain of years. The sight of him to-day renews my faith in that humanity which is divine.V When GBAT first mounted the platform, the veteran abolitionist was visibly affected, but at this allusion to him lie was quite overcome by his feelings. He wept copiously as he saw a representative of the oppressed race to whose enfran cliisement he had devoted all the energies of a long life, slaridfng in the National convention of the dominant party of the country and thus acknowledging his services.

RETALIATE.

It is very properly urged by the Chicago Tribune, that, in retaliation for the grave offense of the^ofEnmakera in striking at this inopportune time, it is the plain duty of every man, woman and child to go to bed early, rise with the lark, stop' eating cucumbers, bathe daily, keep a good conscience by going to church once a Sunday, repair the sewerage, eschew 'over-ripe vegetables, and keep his temper sweet, in order that he may be villainously healthy and keep out of the hands of the coflinmakers ai long as possible Any man who will eat green apples or dally with cabbages when the cOmnmakeis are on a strike ought not to complain, because he ia directly encouraging them in their unreasonable practices but, at the same time, he ought not to prejudice the rest of the community by helping to increase their funeral expenses.

I was armed to the teeth with a pitiful little Smith & Wesson's seven-shooter, which carried, a ball like a homeopathic pill, and the whole seven. to mate a dose for an aduit. But I thought it was grand. It appeared to be a dangerous Weapon. It pnly had one fault—you could not hit anything with it. One of our "conductors" practiced awliiln on a cow with it, and as long as'^she stood still and be^haved herself she was safe but as soon as she went to moving about, and he got to shooting at other things, she came to grief. The secretary had a small-sized Coil's revolver strapped around him tor protection against the Indians, and to guard against accidents he carried it undipped. Mr. George Bemis wa^ dismally formidable. George Bemis was onr fellow-t raveler. We had never ^een him before. Let us by all means have "a monument that will be the pride of the State for ages and let'the State build it, without asking or accepting aid from 'any' inr dividual city, town or corporation Every portion of the State has an equal interest in this \f6rk. The memory of our heioic dead id the inheritance of all our people. There is no propriety in forming a co-partnership between the Commonwealth and any of her citizens for the performance of such a duty as the erection of this monument. The State has one, partnership operation—with JOHN PERDUE—and an unmitigated nuisance it is. Let's have no more such.

A Dead. Delnsion.

The thoory that human beings whoso strength has been exhausted by pain and sickness can be restored by depleting medicines and water gtuel, if not absolutely a dead delusion, is in tho last agonies of dissclution- At length it is understood that strength cannot bo purged into a debilitated frame, though life may easily bo purged out of it, and that it is about as wiso to withhold a healthful stimulant from tbe woak, in the expectation that they will rally without one( as it would be to deprive a lamp of oil and expect it to burd tho brighter for it.

The immense and uniform success which has attended tho nse of that wonderful combination of a pure stimulant with tho finest medicinal herbs, known as llostetter's Stom' ach Bitters, has largely assistod in dispelling the absurd chimera. Frantic attempts are made to revive it, but in vain. When the sick feel that their strength is departing, and that unless invigorated they must utterly break down, it is in vain to tender them feculont slops in tbe ptaoe of genuine restoratives. They may be imposed upon in tVis way once, but tho imposition cannot bo repeated. They desire to be refreshed, comforted, braced up, and deoline to be griped a second time.

Under the operation of the Bitters, on tho other hand, all the processes necessary to physical restoration go on simultaneously. The system is stimulated and toned, the bowels regulated, the appetite cultivated, the nerves composed and the condition of tho blood improved at one and the same time by a single medicine. Common sense, tellff us that such a preparation must be invaluable.
