tence, that grows sweeter with the years, and fonder from its .use, ring?' over the world like a glad carol of musje, and the Express this morning wishes all who may read its columns a merry, blessed CBristmasi It hopes that it may enter no home which is nof happy and where the Christmas time ia not merry and blessed. If sorrow broods oTer ®it bome we trust that the hand which gave will lighten the blow if want or penury makes the circle sad-and the Christmas board bare, may those who are happy, and those who are blessed, cheer and pro vide, and pour sunshine in upon sorrow. We trust that this paper will not be read at any fireside to day where God's poor are not remembered, or where the revelry of plenty-will thoughtlessly soqnd its joys upon the unsnpplisd hearthstones of want. With. all about you made happy as far as cab be, with your heart satisfied that you have done unto others as you would have others do unto you, may this one ol the Sabbaths of the centuries be the gladdest of your life, the happiest and holiest, and in truth "a merry Christmas."

A year ago, the Rey E. F. Howe, of tlie Congregational Chnrch, in order to induce his people to adopt the free seat system, in place of renting, proposed to release his church from all obligations to pay his stipulated salary, and accept, in lieu thereof, whatever the weekly collections should amount to above- fifteen dol* lars per week, which sum was to be deducted to defray incidental expenses. The result has been favorable in all respeeta, except that the parson falls behind two hundred dollars on his salary. Notwith standing this, he renews his offer for another year, and yesterday announced that the proposal had been unanimously and enthusiastically accepted by his chnrch and congregation.

A Crnivenlent Institution.—One of the most convenient institutions for housekeepers is Joe Rupp's Meat Shop on Main street east of Sixth. Mr. Rupp has gone to a considerable expense in fitting up his stand and takes a pardonable pride in keeping everything neat and lidy. He has constantly on hand the very best meats the market affords. His Jer. sey sausage has been very popular this season.
