SPECIAL NOTICES
Ihe Tree Uronnds of ConUdeuce Whence comes that firm reliance, that absolute. undoubting faith in the effisacy of Hostetter's Stomach Bitters as a remedy for indigestion, bilious disorders, intermittent and remittent fe\ era. which notoriously prevails in all parts of tho United States? This confidence has been growing for twenty years, and it is still extending. It is not the result of credulity it has not been engendered by any human device, but is the spontaneous and natural consequence of experience. What people see daily going on under their own eyes they cannot question. When families in unhealthy districts, that resort to this wholesome vegetable tonic as a preventive, escape periodical fevers, and their immedi~ ate neighbors, who neglect that precaution, are prostrated by the disease, how is it possible that the phenomenon should be without its lesson? In like manner when it is seen that obstinate cases of dyspepsia, of liver complaint, of constipntion, of nervous weakness, and of general debility, yield to the operations of the famous remedy, how can even incredulity itself withhold its endorsement? Kye-witnesres of the salutary effects of the bitters, are to be found in every civilized settlement on this continent. The thousands upon thousands who owe tbeir restoration to health and strength, or their preservation from sickness to its extraordinary medicinal properties, are enthusiastic in its praise. The multitudes who recommend it in a neighborly way to their friends and acquaintances, as well as those who make publin their estimate of its virtues, are always rrady to state their reasons for the faith that is in lhem. They have all either felt or witnffFed its beneficent operations,

For this pario c, t:,0 i-nrcst r. ul best remedy is Schcnck's .'.iaa.lniUe Pills. These Pills clean tho stomach r.:ul imv. ls of all Hie dead and morbid slime that" i-rausui: di^ea -e and decay in the whole system. TViy will l'-.'T out ihe liver of ail diseased bile 'hat has acci'.miiiaied there, and arouse it up to a iiuw and Healthy action, by which natural and healthy lih: is secreted.
The stomach, bowels, and liverare thus cleansed the use of Schcnck's Mandrake IMUs but thero remains in the stomach ail excess of acid, the organ is torpid and the appetite poor. In tho bowel", tho lneteaH are ar.d requiring strength and support. It in a con,ii ion like this that Schene. 's Seaweed Toiiij roves to be the most valu'ib' -emedy ever discovered. It is alkaline, and i.'s .:sc will neutralize! ail excess of acid, making tii3 ctomach sweet and fresh it will give permanent :one to thia important organ, and create a good, hearty appetite, and prepare the system for the first process »f a porM digestion, and ultimately make good, healthy, living blood. After this preparatory treatment, what remains to cnre most cases of Consumption is the free and persevering use of Rchenck's Pulmonic Syrup. The Pulmonic Syrup noiiriahes the system, purifies the Wood, and ia readily absorbed into the circulation, and thence distributed to the diseased lungs. There It ripens all morbi matters, whether in tho fonn of ahsccs'ea or tubercies, and then assists Nature to expel c'l she diseased matter ia the form of free eip«-c.tora: inn, when once It ripens. It is then, by the great healing and purifying prop^riies.of Sehenck's Pulmonic Syrup, that all uloe: an.l envitics arc healed up sound, and ray patient is cured.
The essential thing to be done in curing Consnnip'i.'ii i* to get up a good appetite and a good digest ion. s! that tlie body will grow in flesh and get strong. Tbi. is the true ai nily plan to euro Consumption and if a p?-so.\ is very bad, if the lungs .re .aoi entirely de-troved, or even if ore lung it =ntirelj jene. if there is incitgh vitality lelt ill the otheu to heal lip. thero is hope.
I have seen many persons cured, with only one sound lung, live and enjoy life to a good old ag« This is what Schenck's Medicines will do to euro Consumption. They will clean out the stomach, sweeten and strengthen it, pet npagood digestion, and give Nature t!-e assistance she needs to -lear the system of all the disease that it in the nnsrs, whatever tho form maybe.
It is important that, while using Fchenck's Medicines, care should be cxercisca not to take oM keep in-doors in ccol and damp weather jvoi'.t niuht-air, and take out door exercise only 1L. a genial and warm sunshine. 1 wish it distinctly understood that wiien I recmmcnd a patient to he careful in regard to taking cold while using my niiMiiemes, I do so iora special reason. A man who lias but partially recovered from tho efTec.j of a bad cold is far more liable to a relaps-i than one who has been entirely cured, and it is precifely the same in regard to Consumption. So long as tho lunrs are not perfectly healed. Just so long is there imminent Ganger of a full return of the disease. Hence it ia that I so strenuously caution pulmonary patients against exposing themselves to an atmosphere that is not genial and pleasant. Confirmed Consumptives' lungs r.rc a mass of sores, which the least change of a*raosphcre will inflame. Tbe grand secret of my success Willi my Eicdicincs consists in mv ability to subdue inflammation instead of provoking it, as many of tbe laculty do An inflame! lung cannot with safety to tbe patient be exposed to the biting blasts of winter ot the chilling winds spring or autumn. It should be carefully shielded from all irritating influences. The utnio-t caution should be observed in this particular, as without it a cure nnder almost any circumstances is an impossibility.
Th» parson shmtM he kept cn a wholesome and r.ntritions diet, and all the rudicines continued until tho body has restored lo it the natural quantity of fl.-sh and strength.
I was myself cured by

worst kind of Consnmptii n, and have lived to get fat and hearty theeo n-any \ears, with one lung mostly gone. I Lave rnred thousands since, and very many have been emeu by thiB treatment whom I h-ivc never seen.
About the 1st of October, I expect to take possession of my new building at the northeast corner of Sixth and Arch Streets, where I shall be pleased to give advice to all who may require it.
Full directions accompany all my remedies, so Jhat a person in any part of th« world can be read ••ycured by a strict observance of tho sam».

PROSPECTUS.
PROSPECTUS FOR 1872. FIFTH YEAR.
A Representative and Champion of American Ar
mL* 01. HJS 3 UA,
THE ALDINE:
An Jlltutratcd Monthly Jounud, claimed to be the hancUomett in the World.
"Give my love to the artist workmen of THE ALDINB who are striving to make their prolession worthy of admiration for beauty, as it has alwaya been for useful neBS. —Henry Ward Beecher.
THE ALD1NE, while issued with all tho regalarity, has none of the temporary or ti:ndy interest characteristic of ordinary peril* !icals. It is an elegant miscellany of pure, light, and graceful literature, and a collection of pictures, the rarest specimens o' artistic skill, in black and white. Although each succeeding number affords a fresh pleasure to its friends, the real value and beauty of THE ALOJNE will be most appreciated after it has. been bound up at the close of the year. While other publications may claim superior cheapn-ss as compared with rivals of a similar class, THE A DINE is a unique and original concep ion, alone and.unapproached, absolutely without'eompetition in price or character. Ihe possessor of the volume just completed cannot dupli cate the quant ty of fine paper and engravings in any ofher shape or number of volumes/or ten time* it* cost.
The labor of getting THE ALL1NE ready on the press is so great th&treprinting is out of the question. With the exception of a small number specially reserved for binding, the edition of 1871 is already ezhaustod. and it is now a scarce as well as valuable book.
New Features for 1872.
ART DEPARTMENT.
The enthusiastic support so readily accorded to their enterprise, wherever it has been introduced, has convinced tho publishers of THE ALl)IHE of the soundness of their theory that tne American public would recognize and heartily support any sincere effort to elevate the tone and standard of illnstrated publications That so mnny weakly wicked sheets exist and thrive is not evidence that there is no market for anything be'tei—ind' ed the success of THE ALDINE fiom the start is direct proof of the contrary. With a population So vast, and ot such varied tast •, a publisher can choose bis patrons, and bis paper is rather indicative of his own than of tne taf-te of the country. As a guarantee of the excellence of this department, the publishers would beg to announce during the ooming year, specimens from the following eminent American artists:
Wm- Richards, Granville Perkins.:. Wm Hart. F. 0. C. Darley, Wm-Beard. "Victor Nehlig,, i-.... George Smiley, AVm. Wilcox. Aug. Will. James H. Beard, James Smiley, .1. R.
E.
Piquet,
Frank Beard, Paul Dixon,, J. Hows The pictures are being reproduced without regard to expense by the very best engravers in the country, and will bear ti. severest, critical comparison with ihe best foreign work, it being the determination of the publisher that THE ALD1NE shall be a successful vindication- of American taste in competition with any existing publication in the world.
LITERARY DEPAR1MENT. Where so much attention is paidto illustro* tion and get up of the work, too much dcendenceon «ppearancet may very naturally ,e frared. To anticipate such misgi ings, it is only necessary to stat that, the editorial management THE ALDINE has been intrusted to MR.of
The Christmas number for 1872, will be a splendid volume in itself, containing fifty engravings, tfour in tint) and, although retailed at$l, will be sent without extra charge to all early subscribers,
A Chromo to every Subscriber'
was a very popular feature last year, and will be repeated with the prfsent volume. The publishers: have purchased and reproduced, at great expense, the beautiful oil ainting by S-is, entitled "DAMC NATUHIS'S nooL." The chromo is 11x13 inches, and is an exact fac-simile{ in sizo and appearance, of the original picture. No American chromo. which will at all compare with it, has yet been offered at retail for less than the price asked lor THE ALDJJSE and it toether. It will be delivered free, with the anuary number,, to every subscriber who pays for one year in advance.
