B. PRICE —The advance agent,

Mr. Gorham, arrived in the city last evening to make arrangements for the coming of the tragic actress, Miss Fanny B. Price, who enjoys an enviable popularity in this city. The season opens on Friday evening, continuing all of the following week. We feel that the mere announcement of the coming of this favite actress is sufficient to insure large audiences on each successive night.

OPERA HOUSE.—An audience that must have been highly satisfactory to the management congregated at the Opera House last evening. Mr. Lawrence Barrett personated Elliott Gray in the drama of "Rosedale" in a manner that impressed all that the many complimentary words that have preceded him have not been spoken. A portion of the company supporting him is very good indeed, while some of it is anything but satisfactory, after enjoying the excellent companies that have been here with McKee Rankin and Katie Putnam. "Rosedale" will be repeated to-night.

CONCERT.—We direct attention to the programme published this morning, of the concert to be given at the Congregational Church this evening. A fine selection of music will be presented on this occasion, and the names announced is assurance that it will be well executed. Mrs. C. D. Carrington, who will make her first appearance in this city, is a distinguished vocalist, from Chicago. She is one of the sufferers from the recent disaster there, having lost everything by the fire, and comes to this city with a view to find employment as a teacher of music. She is a singer of rare culture, and will add greatly to the interest of the concert.

ONE of the vilest of habits is the too common one of taking personal liberties. Of course we refer only to the male sex in their association with each other. Taking personal liberties between the sexes is altogether another affair, and one to which, if the parties consent, there can be no reasonable objection. We refer to that class of men who enforce their pungent sayings by a punch in the ribs, or who round off a paragraph with a Blap on the shoulder or a pinch on the arm. You are walking quietly along the street, when one of these misguided bores steps up behind you and catches yon rudely by the arm, which, perhaps, is just then reveling in the agonies of a new-found boil, or slaps you on the shoulder, which you have just freed from a blister plaster. The fiend smiles as you turn to greet him, and expects an answering grin on your face, when you had greatly rather knock him down. The more exasperating of these ill-mann4red fellows will sometimes playfully tip your hat over your eyes by way of an unexpected salutation, or even venture admiringly to caress your beard with his not over-clean hand. There is an old motto about "the man who lays his hand on a woman, save in the way of kindness, &c," which we would have modified into "the man who lays his hand upon a man, save in the way of unkindness, is a wretch whom it were base flattery to call a villain." Let every man remember that, however much Lucy or Mary may fancy his uncouth caresses, to John or Samuel they are simply nauseous and intolerable. At home or abroad, let every man's motto be—"hands off, gentlemen!"

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT.

Postmaster Burnett, on yesterday, received the acknowledgement below from the Chairman of the Chicago Relief ar.d Aid Society:

CHICAGO, Oct. 27,1871.

DEAR SIR:—Referring to your favor of Oct. 17, I beg leave to acknowledge receipt of the prtfvisions and supplies therein stated, contributed generously for the assistance of our sufferers by the late distressiog conflagration. Accept our thanks and the thanks of this desolated population, and please convey our heartfelt expressions of gratitude to your benevolent people for their aid. We are now taking care of more than 40,000 destitute and impoverished men, women and children, providing them food, shelter and clothing, and this bracing cold weather warns us all of the near approach of winter when extra exertions if those are possible, will have to be used to make them somewhat less exposed.

Yours very truly, WIRT

DEXTER,

Chairman Executive Committee.
