The holders of tiokets to which gifts are awarded will be paid on presentation of them or their fraotion, at the office in Louisville, the second day aftor the drawing and overy business day for six months thereafter, and may be sent direct or through any Bank or Express Ce., for collection. All orders accompanied by Drafts, Post office Money Orders, or Greenbacks, will be promptly attended to and tiokets returned by mail, registered or expressed, as desired,
Tickets are like Greenbacks—good only to the holder. Buyers will note that there are only One Hundred Thousand Tickets, instead of Two Hundred Thousand, as in the San Franoisco Gift Conoert, and that there is #50,000 more distributed. I sold that and made the awards in four months and paid #448,000 to tioket holders from Nov. 2d to 15th, 1870, and turned over 912,000 to the Secretary due tiokets not presented.
It will be particularly noticed that it is a matter of impossibility for any one to know what numbers draw gifts, as it is not known what the gift of any number drawn from the first wheel will be, until the sealed box, with the amount of the gift plainly printed, is taken from the other wheel and opened in full view of the audienoe, therefore the larger gifts may not come out until towards the last, or in the middle of the drawing. The 8100,000 gift in the San Franoisoo Gift Conoert under the management of C. R. PHTKRS, was the 200th number drawn, and was awarded and paid to a gcntlemai in New Orleans. 721 Gifts is all that can be drawn in one day. •arThe Numbers and Gifts are drawn by blind children flrom 8 to 14 years of age.
The Drawing will be extensively published, and parties ordering Tiokets will have Tinted lists sent them. Parties_ forming Jlubs and desiring information will pleaso address this office.

The undersigned, late principal manager of the very successful Mercantile Library Gift Concert at San Francisco, California, has been appointed agent and manager of the Gift Conoert in aid of the Publio Library of Kentuoky.
The drawing will take place in publio. and everything will be done to satisfy buyers of tickets that their interest will be as well protected as if they personally superintended the entire affair. MANNSR OF IBAWING:
There will be two glass wheels. One wheel will contain 100,000 numbers, plainly printed on leather tags. The other wheel will oontain 721 boxes, each containing a gift. One tag or number will be drawn from the 100,000 wheel, and the first box drawn from the second or 721 box wheel will contain a gift, neatly printed and sealed up, and the gilt so drawn from the sccond wheel will be the gift of the tag first drawn, whether 8100,81.000, or $100,000, as announced.
14,364 TICM DISPOSED OFp JULY.
To insure ticket holders, the publio are assured that if only 25,000 tickets are sold only 25,000 numbers go to the large wheel, th6 721 gifts awarded, but diminished prorata. In case 50,000 tickets only are sold, only numbers I te50,000 g» in the lifrge wheel, and the 721 gifts diminished one-half and in oue only 85,000 tiokets are sold the entire 721 gifts will be pud in full—it being intended that no unsold tickets shall participate.
The manager has already paid into the Giticens' Bank #50,000 towards defraying the expenses, and does not depend on sales of tickets to pay his expenses of Printing, Advertising, Ac. The public are invited to the utmost scrutiny-as to the reliability of the entire affair.

SPECIAL NOTICES
Influence of Temperature on Health. In the fall the difference between the temperature of night and day is greater than at any other time of the year. In the early autumn the quicksilver sometimes rises as high during the day as in the fervid summer weather, while at night it often sinks to an almoBt wintry point. The human body not being made of steel or India rubber, sensibly feels these tremendous changes. To fortify the system againt them, a genuine tonie is required and the public has long-since discovered that among this description of medicines Hostetter't Stomach Bitters is infinitely the best. It gently quickens the circulation, reg nlates the bowels, tones the liver, braces the nerves, and thus puts the whole physique on its defence against the vicissitudes of temperature in our climate. Few if any cases of epidemic fever are heard of in localities where it is in common use. As it becomes more and more widely known, and the demand for it increases, chills and fever, and the bilious remittent seem to recede before it and if ever it should come into universal use these diseases would cease to be known as the sconrges of our low-lying and marshy districts. Thathomely bit of proverbial philosophy, thsft "prevention is better than cure" should be especially borne ig mind-in the autumn months and indeed in all seasons. together with the faet, that among all the preventives of malarious diseases tfostetter's Stomach Bitters is the most safe and
Be oertain, however, to obtain the genuine article, as countless imitations of a pernicious character are abroad. See that the externals are all right, and remember that Hostetter's Stomach Bitters is sold in bottles alone. hf A New Enjoyment

CONSUMPTION.
Its Cure and Its Preventive.
BY J. H. SCHENCK, SLD.
being has passed away for whose
death there was no other reason than the neglect of known mid Indisputably proven means of cure. Those ni'iir and dear to family and friends are slecplnK the'dreamloss slumber into which, hud tliuy caiinly adopted DR.. JOSEPH II. BCIIENCK'S SI3IPL.E
TREATMENT,
and availed themselves of his wonderfully efficacious medicines, they would not have fallen. Dr. ticlienck lias in his own case proved that wherever sufficient vitality remains, that vitality, by his nmdiolnes und his directions for their use, is quickened into healthful vigor.
In this statemnnt there ts nothing presumptuous. To the faith of the Invalid Is njade no representation that is not a thousand times substantiated by living and visible works. The theory of the cure by Dr. Schenck's medicines is as simple as It 1s unfailing. Its philosophy requires no argument. It is self-assuring, self-con-Yinclntr.
The Sea-weed Tonic and Mandrake Pills are the first two weapons with which the citadel of the malady is assailed. Two thirds of the cases Ov consumption originate In dyspepsia and a functionally disordered liver. With this condition the bronchial tubes sympathize" with the stomach. They respond to the morbific action of the Uver. Here then comes the culminating result, and the setting in, with all its aistressiug symptoms of
CONSU3IPTION.
The Mandrake Pills aro composed of one of Nature's noblest sifts—the Podophillum Peltatum. They possess nil the blood-searching, alterative properties of calomel, but, unlike calomel, they
LEAVE NO STING BEHIND." The work of cure Is now beginning. The vitiated and mucous deposits la the bowels and In the alimentary eanal are ejected. The liver, like' a clock, is wound up. It arouses from Its torpidity. The stomach acts responslvely, and the patient begins to feel that ho Is getting, at last,
A SUPPLY OF GOOD BLOOD. The Sea-weed Tonic, in conjunction with the Pills, permeates and assimilates with the food. Chyllflcatlon is now progressing without its previous tertures. Digestion becomes painless, and the cure is seen to be at hand. There is no more flatulence, 110 exacerbation of the stomach. As

cure. It enters at once upon its work. Nature can not be cheated. It colleots and ripens the impaired and diseased portions of the lungs. In the form of gatherings.lt prepares them for expectoration, and lol in a very shert time the malady is vanquished, the rotten throne that it occupied is renovated and made new, and the patient, In all the dignity of regained vigor, steps forth to enjoy the manhood or womanhood that was
GIVEN UP AS LOST. -v
The second thing is, the patients must stay in a warm room until they get well it is almost Impossible to prevent taking eold when the lungs are diseased, but It must be prevented or a cure can not be effected. Fresh air and riding out, especially in this section of the country, fn the •tall and winter season, are all wrong. Physicians who recommend tlents. if their luni because they aro sit down quiet they must walk about the room as much and as fast as the strength will boar, to get up a good circulation of blooa. The patients must keep in good spirits—be determined to get well. This has a great deal to do with the appetite, and is the great point to gain.
To despair or cure after such evidence of its possibility in the worst cases, and meral certainty in all others, is sinful. Dr. Schenck's personal statement to the Faculty of his own cure was in these modest words:
Many years ago. I was in the last stages of consumption confined to my bed, and at one time my physicians thought that 1 could not live a week: then, like a drowning man catching at straws, I heard of and obtained the preparations which I now offer to the public, and they made a perfect cu«-e of mo. It seemed to me that I could feel them penetrato my whole system. They soon ripened the matter in my lungs, and I would spit up more than a pint of offensive yellow matter every morning for along time.
As soon as that began to subside, my cough, fever, pains, and night sweats all began to leave me, and my appetite became so great that It was with difficulty that I could keep from eating too. much. I soon gained my strength, and have grown in flesh ever since. "I was weighed shortly after my recovery," added the Doctor, then looking like a mere skeleton my weight was only ninety-seven pounds: my present weight Is two hundred and twenty-five (226) pounds, and for years I have enjoyed uninterrupted health."
Dr. Sohenck has discontinued bis professional -visits to New-York and Boston. He or his son. Dr. J~. H. Sohenck, Jr., still centinue to see patients at their office. Tne directions for taking the medicines are adapted to the intelligence even of a child. Follow these directions, and kind Nature will do the rest, excepting that in some eases the Mandrake Pills are to bo taken in increased doses the three medicines need no other accompaniments than the ample instructions that accompany them: First create appetite. Of returning health, hunger is the most welcome symptom. When it comes, as it will come, let the despairing at once beer good cheer. Good blood at once follows, the cough loosens, the night sweat Is abated. In a short time both of these morb.a a re

RAPID PROGRESS OF THE WORK
The building of the Northern Pacific Railroad, (begun July last,) is being pushed forward with great energy from both extremities of the line. Several thousand men are employed in Minnesota and on the Pacific coast. The grade is nearly completed 266 miles westward from Lake Supemr trains are running over 130 miles of finished road, and track-laying is rapidly progressing toward the eastern boarder of Dakota.. Including its

A GOOD INVESTMENT. Jay Cooke ft Co. are.now selling, and unhesitatingly recommend, as a Profitable and perfectly Safe investment, the First Mortgage La.nd Grant Gold Bonds of the Northern Pacific Railroad Company. They have SO years to run, bear Seven and Three-Tenths per cent, gold interest (more than 8 per cent, currency) and are secured by first and only mortgage on the BNTIBK ROAD AND ITS KQTJIPM1NT8, and also, as fast as the road is completed, on 2S,000 ACRES OF £AND to every mile of traok, or 500 Acres for each $1,000 Bond.
