SPECIAL NOTICES.

Iaflacnce of Temperature on Health, In thefsll the difference between the temperature of night and day is greater than at any other time of the year. In the early autumn the quicksilver sometimes rises as high daring the day as in the fervid summer weather, wKile at night it ofjeji sinju te "*n'aim4st Vintry point. The nam an body not^ieing made ef steel or India-rubber,- sensibly ftels these tremendous changes. To fortify the system agnint them, a genuine tonic is required and the public lias long since discov ered that among this description of medicines Hosfcetter Stomach Bitters is infinitely the best. It gently quickens the circulation, reg ulates the bowels, tones the liver, braces the nerves, and thus puts the whole physique on its defenoe against the vicissitudes of temperature in our climate. Few if any cases of epidemic fever are heard of in localities where it is in common use. As it becomes more and more widely known, and the demand for it increases, chills and fever, and the bilious remittentseem to recede before it and if ever it should come into universal use these diseases would cease to be known as the scourges of our low-lying and marshy districts. That homely bit of proverbial philosophy, that "prevention is better than cure" should be especially borne in mind in the autumn munths and indeed in all seasons, together with the fact, that among all the preventives of malarious diseases Hostetter's Stomach Bitters is the most safe and potent.

Be certain, however, to obtain the genuine article, as countless imitations of a pernicious character are abroad. See that the externals are all right, and remember that Hostetter's Stomach Bitters is sold in bottles alone.

CONSUMPTION.

Its Cure and Its Preventive.

BY J. H. SCHEJTCX, 3tD.

Many aliumnn beinghas passed away forwhose deuth there wus no other reason than che negleot of known una indisputably proven means or cure. Those war und dear to family and friends are sleeping tlie dreamless slumber into irMcli, bad they cuiiuiy adopted DU. JOSEPII H. *CHENCK.'B SIMPLE

TREATMENT,

and availed themselves of his wonderfully efflcaclous medicine#, they would not have fallen. Dr. Sclieiick has in hia own case proved that wherever sufficient vitality remains, that vitality, by his medicines and his directions for their use, is quickened Into healthful vigor. 1 statement there 4* nothing presumptuous. To the faith of the Invalid Is made no representation that is not a thousand times substantiated living and risible works. The theory of tho euro by Ir. Scbonck'a memolnes is as sluiple as Is unfailing. Its phflOBO{)hy requires no argument. It is self-assuring, sell-con-* vinclng.'

Tue Sea-Treed Tonic and Mandrake Pills are the first two weapons.with which tke citadel of tht malady is assailed. Two thirds of tho cases Ok consumption originate in dyspepsia and a functionally disordered liver, with this condition tho bronchial tubes "sympathize" with the stomach. The? respond to the morbific action of the liver. 6ere then comes the culminating result, and the setting in, with all Its distresslug symptoms of si! COMSUMPTOON/| J^

The Mandrako Pills aro composed of one of Nature's noblost gifts—the Podophillum Peltatum. They possess all the blood-searching, alterative properties of calomel, but, unliko calomel, they "IiEAVE NO STING BEHIND."

Tho work of euro is now beginning. Tho vitiated und mucous deposits ie the bowels and In the alimentary canal are ejected. The liver, like a clock, is wound up. It arouses from its torpidity.- The stomach acts respOnstvely, and the patient begins to feel that ho Is getting, at last,

A SUPPLY OF GOOD BLOOD. The Sea-weed Tonic, In conjunction with tlif Pills, permeates and assimilates with the food. Chyliacatlon is now progressing without its previous tortures. Digestion becomes.palnless.and the curo laseon to be at hand. There Is no more flatulence, no oxacerbatlou of the stomach. An

cames the greatest Blood Purifier ever yet given by an indulgent father to suffering man. Bchenck's Pulmonic Syrup cemes in to perform its funotlens and to hasten and complete the

cure. It enters at once upon Its work. Nature cin not be cheated. It collects and ripens the impaired and diseased portions of the lungs. In the form of gatherings, it prepares them fop expectoration, and lot in a very short time the malady is vanquished, the rotten throne that it occupied is renovated and made new, and the patient, in all the dignity of regained vigor, steps forth to enjoy the manhood or womanhood that was •9 VIM** t-5

GIVEN t'P AS LOST.

The second thing is, tho patients mnst stay in a

warm room until they get well It is almost imprevent taking cold when the longs are diseased, but it must be prevented or a cure

tlents. if their lungs are budly diseased add yeL because they aro itt tho house they must not sit down quiet they must walk about the room as much and as fast as the strength will bear, to got up a good circulation of blood. The patients must keep in good spirits—be determined to get well. This has a great deal to do with the appetite, and Is the great point to gain.

To despair of cure after such evidence of its possibility in the worst cases, and meral certainty in all others, is sinful. Dr. Bchenck's personal statement to the Faculty of his own cure was In these modest words:

Many years ago 1 was in the last stages of

straws, 1 heard of and obtained the preparations which 1 now offer to the public, and they made a perfect cure of me. It seemed to me that I could feel them penetrate my whole system. They soon ripened the matter In my lungs, and 1 would spit up more than a pint of offensive yellow matter every morning fer along time.

As soon as that began to subside, my cough, fever, pains, and night sweats all began to leave

grown In flesh ever since. "I was weighed added the Doctor,

"I was weighed shortly after my recovery," "tben looking like a mere Skeleton: my weight was only ninety-seven pounds: my present weight is two hundred and twenty-five (IK) pounds, and for years 1 have enJoyed uninterrupted health."

Dr. Schenck ha9 discontinued his professional visits to New-York and Boston. He or his son. Dr. J. H. Schenck, Jr.. still continue to see patients at their office. No. 15 North Sixth Street, Philadelphia, every Saturday fromOAJi.toS P-M. Those who wish a thorough examination with the Kespiroraoter will be charged $5. The ResDlromoter declares tho exact condition ef tho lungs, and patients can readily learn whether tuey are curable or not.

Tne directions for taking the medicines are adapted to the intelligence eTOP of a ohild. goU low these directions, and kind Nature will do the rest, excepting that in some cases the Mandrake nils are to be taken in increased doses the three medicines need no other accompaniments than the ample Instructions ttu& .aocompany them: First create appetite. Of returning health, hunger is the most welcome symptom. When it comes, as it will come, let the despairing at once beef geod cheer. Good blood atones follows, the cougn loosens, the night sweat is abated. In a short time both of these morbid a

Dr. Schenck's medicines are constantly kept .n As a laxative or a standard pre-
