SPECIAL NOTICES. Wilted Down. Ask the man who complains of "wilting down" in torrid weather what he has done to sustain his system under the extra strain im posed on his vitality. He may tell you that he has tried a variety of cathartics to purify his blood and brighten his spirits. Under such treatment, of conrso, his strength has given way, and his energies have become exhausted. What he_ requires is a restorative not a dcplctant. His blood is thin his nerves have lost their natural tension, and nature demands to be renovated and reinforced Tho means is within tho reach of all. For nearly a score of years, Hostctter's Stomach Bitters has been building np broken consti tutions, bracing and strengthening' attenna ted frames, and affording comfort, ease, and hope to thousands. As *a preventive of the epidemics which make such havoc with the health of the inhabitants of new settlements this famous tonic is certainly without a rival. Perhaps the principal portion of its world famo is attributablo ta its astonishing cures of dyspepsia, and all forms of indigestion- But these are not a moiety of its triumphs- All the types of biliousness yield to its persistent use. It is a regulating medicine of thehighostorder and its effects upon the secretions, when irregular, is most salutary.

CONSUMPTION.
Its Cure and Its Preventive.
BY
J.
H. SCHENCK, M.D.
Many al-unnin licinghas passed awayforwhosa death tliere was no other reason than the neglect of kiln wn ami Indisputably proven means of cure. Tlidsi' near a nl i! nr to family and friends are Kluci'liiK ilio "lirnmlesa slumber into which, had ioy caimly adopted SR. JOSEPH II. SCIIEXCIi'S SIMPIVp
TREATMENT,
and availed themselves of his wonderfully efficacious iniHlicine*. tlu-y would not have fallen. Dr. suhcnck has in his own case proved that wherever sufficient vitality remains, that vitality, bv liis medicines and his directions for their uai', is quickened into healthful vigor.
In tills statemont there is nothing presumptuous. To the faith of tho fnvalid is mado no epresentatiou that is not a thousand times substantiated by living and vislblo works. Tho theory of tho cure by Dr. Schenck's medicines is as simple as it is unfailing. Its philosophy requires no argument. It is self-assuring, self-con-vincing.
The Sea-weed Tonic and Mandrake Pills are the first two weapons with which the citadel of the malady is assailed. Two thirds of tho cases of consumption originate in dyspepsia and a functionally disordered liver. With this condition the bronchial tubes sympathize" with tho stomach. Thev respond to the morbific action of the liver. Here then comes tho culminating result, and the setting in, with all its distressing symptoms of
CONSUMPTION.
The Mandraka Pills aro composed of or.e of Nature's noblest gifts—the Podopiiiilum Peltatum. Tliey possess all tlio blood-searchipg, alterntivo properties of calomel, but, unliko calomel, they
LEAVE NO STING BEHIND." Tho work of cure is now beginning. Tho vitiated and mucous deposits in the bowels and in tho alimentary canal aro ejected. Tho liver, liko a clock, is wound up. It arouses from its torpidity. The stomach acts responsively, and the latlent begins to feci that ho is getting, at last,
A SUPPLY OF GOOD BLOOD. The Sea-weed Tonic, in conjunction with the rills, permeates and assimilates with the food. Chyllflcation is now progressing without its previous tortures. Digestion becomes painless, unci the cure is seen to boat hand. Thoro is no moro iiatulenee, no exacerbation of the Btomach. An appetltasets in.
Now comes tho greatest Blood Purifier evor yet given by an indulgent father to suffering man. Schenck's Pulmonic Syrup comes In to perform its functions and to hasten and completo tho cure. It enters at once upon its work. Naturo cm not bo cheated. It collects and ripens tho impaired and diseased portions of the lungs, luthe form of gatherlngs.it prepares them for expectoration, and lo! in a very shsrt time tho malady is vanquished, the rotten throne that it occupied is renovated and mado new, and tho patient, in all the dignity of regained vlgor.steps forth to enjoy tho manhood or womanhood that was
GIVEN UP AS LOST.
Tho second thing is, the patients must sta/in a warm room until they get well it is almost irapossihlo to prevent takinst cold when tho lungs aro diseased, but it must bo prevented or a euro can not bo effected. Fresh air and riding out, especially in this section of tho country, in tho tall and winter season, aro all wrong. Physicians who recommend that courso lose their patients. if their lungs aro badly diseased and yet. because they aro in tho houso they must not sit down quiet they must walk about the room as much and as fast as the strength will bear, to got up a good circulation of blood. The patients must keep In good spirits—be determined to get well. This has a great deal to do with the appetite, and is the great point to gain.
To despair or cure after such ovidence of ks possibility in tho worst cases, and m»ral certainty in all others, is sinful. Dr. Schenck's personal statement to tho Faculty of his own euro was in these modest words:
Many years ago I was in the last stages of consumption confined to my bed, and at ono time my physicians thought that I could not livo a week: then, liko a drowning man catching at straws, I heard of and obtained the preparations which 1 now offer to the public, and they mado a perfect cure of mo. It seemed to mo that I could feel them penetrate my whole system. Thev soon ripened tho matter in my lungs, and 1 would spit up more than a pint of offensive yellow matter every morning for a long time.
As soon as that began to subside, my cough, fever, pains, and night sweats all began to leave me, and my appetite became so great that it was with difficulty that I could keep from eating too much. I soon gained my strength, and havo grown In flesh ever since. "I was weighed shortly after my recovery." added the Doctor, then looking like a mere skeleton my weight was only ninety-seven pounds mypresent weight is two hundred and twenty-five (225) pounds, and for years I have enJoyed uninterrupted health."
Dr. Sehenck has discontinued his professional visits to N'ow-York and Boston. He or his son, J)r. J. H. Schenck, Jr.. still continue to see patients at their offlco. No. 15 North Sixth Street. Philadelphia, every Saturday from 9
A.M. to3 P.M.
Those who wish a thorough examination with the Respirometer will be charged $5. The Res-
fungs,
urometer declares the exact condition of tho and patients can readily learn whether they aro curablo or not.
The directions for taking the medicines aro adApted to the Intelligence oven of a child. Follow these directions, and kind Naturo will do tho rest, excepting that in some cases the Mandrake Pills are to be taken in increased doses the three medicines need no other accompantments than the ample instructions that accompany them: First creato appetite. Of returning health, hunger is the most welcome symptom. When It comes, as it will come, let the despairing at once beef good cheer. Good blood at onoe follows, the cough loosens, the night sweat is abated. In a short time both of these morbid symptoms are gone forever.
Dr. Schenck's medicines are constantly kept .n tens of thousands of families. As a laxative or purgative, the Mandrake Pills area standard pre-
partition while the Pulmonio Svrup, as a cure of coughs and colds, maybe regarded as a prophylacterlc against consumption la any of its zorms.
Price of the Pulmonic Syrup and Sea-weed Tonic, $1 JO a bottle, or $7.50 a half dozen. Man. drake Pills, 25 cents a box. For sale by all drag, gists and dealers.

RAPID PROGRESS OF THE WORK.
The building of the Northern Pacific Railroad, (begun July last,) is being pushed forward with great energy from both extremities of the line. Several thousand men aro employed in Minnesota and on the Pacific coast. The grade is nearly completed 206 miles westward from Lake Superior trains are running over 130 miles of finished road, and track-laying is rapidly progressing toward the eastern boarder of Dakota. Including its

They have 30 years to run, bear Seven and Three-Tenths per cent, gold interest (more than 8 per cent, currency) and are secured by first&nd only mortgage on the KKTIBB BOAD AND ITS KQDIPMBNTS, and also, as fast as the road is completed, on 23,000 ACRES OF HAK1 to every mile of track, or 500 Acres for oach Jl,0O0 Bond.
