A Peritonei Season,
Glorious and delightful as the Summer weather is, its tropical teat is a severe trial to the vital powers. Even the strongest are sometimes prostrated by its effects. The com mon phrase applied to this condition is "general debility." Now, general debility ariseB from, and includes a variety of ailments.' The liver is more or less affected, the bowels are cither constipated or too much relaxed, the stomach but half performs the work of digestion the appetite is poor, and the spirits depressed. This is what is called general debility. It is a general disarrangement of all the physical functions, and requires as a remedy a medicine that will regulate them all. Hostetter's Stomach Bitters is specially adapted to this purpose. Its general operation is not confined to a single organ If the liver is affected, it restores its tone. If the stomach is torpid, it regenerates it. If the nerves are tremulous and weak, it braces and reinforces them. If the inin, which ever sympathizes with the body, is gloomy and despondent, it relieves the difficulty, and soon brings the whole mechanism of the body into harmony with the laws of health.
There is no civilized nation in the Western Hemisphere in which the utility of Hostetter's Stomach Bitters as a tonic, corrective, ard anti-bilious medicine, is not known and appreciated. Throughout the Tropics, it is considered, both by the people ana the pro fession, the standard specific. While it is a medicine for all seasons and all climate*, it is especially suited to the complaints generated by the weather, being the purest and best vegetable stimulant in the world*
Beware of the Bitters made oi acrid and dangerous materials, which unscrupulous parties are endeavoring to foist upon the peo plo. Their name is legion, and the public has no guarantee that they are not poisonous. Adhere to the tried remedy, Hostetter's Bitters, sold only in glass, and never in kegs or barrels.

CONSUMPTION.
lis Cure and Its Preventive.
BY J. II. SCHENCK, M.D.
Man aliumun beins has passed away for whoso death there was no other reason than the neglect of known ami indisputably proven means of cure. Those near ami dear to family and friends are sleeping the dreamless slumber Into which, had they cuioily adopted 1)11. JOSEPH II. KCIIEXCIi'S SIMPLE
TREATMENT,
and availed themselves of his wonderfully efficacious medicines they would not have fallen. Dr. cichenck has in his own case proved that wherever sufficient vitality remains, that vitality, by his medicines and his directions for their use, is quickened into healthful vigor.
In this statement thero Is nothing presumptuous. To the faith of the invalid is made no representation that is not a thousand times sub* stantiated by living and visible works. The theory of the cure by Dr. Schenck's medicines is as simple as it Is unfailing. Its philosophy requires no argument. It is self-assuring, self-con-
flrst two weapons with which tlio citadel of tha malady is assailed. Two thirds of the cases of consumption originate in dyspepsia and a functionally disordered liver. With this condition the bronchial tubes sympathize" with tho stomach. They respond to the morbific action of the liver. Here then comes the culminating result, and the setting'in, with all its distressing symptoms of
CONSUMPTION.
Tho Mandrake Pills are composed of one of Nature's noblest gifts—the Podophillum Peltatum. They possess all tho blood-searching, alterativo properties of calomel, but, unlike calomel, they "LEAVE NO STING BEHIND."
The work of euro is now beginning. Tho vitiated and Hideous deposits in the bowels and in tho alimentary canal uro ejected. The liver, liko a clock. Is wound up. It arouses from Us torpidity. The stomach acts responsively, and tho patient begins to feel that lie is getting, at lust,
A SUPPLY OF GOOD BLOOD. The Sea-weed Tonic, in conjunction with tho Pills, permeates and assimilates with the food. Chyliflcation is now progressing without Its previous tortures. Digestion becomes painless, and the euro is seen to boat hand. There is no moro flatulence, no exacerbation of the stomach. Ai appetite"sets in.
Now comes the greatest Blood Purifier ever yet given by an indulgent father to suffering man. Schenck's Pulmonic Syrup comoa la te perform its functions and to hasten and complete the cure. It enters at onco upon its work. Nature cin not be cheated. It collects and ripens tho impaired and diseased portions of the lungs. In the form of gatherings.it prepares them for expectoration, and lo! in a very short time the malady is vanquished, tho rotten throne that it occupied is renovated and made new, and the patient, in all the dignity of regained yigor, steps forth to enjoy the manhood or womanhood that was
GIVEN UP AS LOST.
The second thing is, tho patients must stay In a warm room until they get well it is almost impossible to prevent taking eold when the lungs are diseased, but it must be prevented or a cure can not be effected. Kresh air and riding out, especially In this section of the country, in the tail and winter season, are all wrong. Physicians who recommend that course lose their patients, if their lungs aro badly diseased and yet, because tliey aro in the house they must not sit down quiet they must walk about the room
as much and as fust ns the strength will bear, to cot up a good circulation of blooa. The patients must keep in good spirits—be determined to get
well. tite, and Is the great point to gain. To despair of cure after such evidence of Its possibility in the worst cases, and moral certainty in all others, is sinful. Dr. Schenck's personal statement to tho Faculty of his own euro was in these modest words:
Many years

1 was in the last stages of
consumption confined to tny bed, and' at piiO time my physicians thought'that I Could not live a week: then, like a drowning man catchtng at straws, I heard of and obtained the preparations which 1 now offer to the public, and they made a perfect euro of me. It seemed to me that I could feel them penetrnte my whole system. They soon ripened tho matter in my lungs, and 1 would spit up more than pint of offensive yellow matter every morning for along time.
As soon as that began to subside, my cough, fever, pains, and night sweats all began to leave me,.and my appetite became so great that It was with difficulty that 1 could keep from eating too much. 1 soon gained my strength, and havo .grown In flesh ever since.
I was weighed shortly after my recovery," added the Doctor, then looking like a mere skeleton ray weight was only ninety-seven resent weight is two hundred and ears 1 havo en-
pounds my present weight is twenty-five (225) pounds, and for Joyed uninterrupted health."
Scheiick has discontinued his professional visits to New-York and Boston. He or his son. Dr. J. H. Schenck. Jr.. still continue to see patients at their office. No. 15 North Sixth Street, Philadelphia, every Saturday from 9 A.M.to3P.M. Those who wish a thorough examination with the Hcspirometer will be charged f5. The Bes-
fiiromcter
declares the exact condition ®f the
ungs, and patients can readily learn whether tliey aro curable or not. The directions for taking the mediclncs aro adapted to the intelligence even of a child. Follow these directions, and kind Nature will doxhe rest, excepting that In some cases the Mandrake rills are to be taken in incraused doses the three medicines need no other accompaniments than the ample instructions that accomp&ay them: First create appetite. Of returning health, hunger is tho most welcome symptom. When It cjmes, as it will come, let the despairing at once beef good cheer. Good blood at ono# follows, the cough loosens, the night sweat la abated. In a short time both of these morbid symptoms aro gone forever.
Dr. Schenck's medicines aro constantly kept -n tens of thousands of families. As a laxative or purcatlve, the Mandrake Pills are a. standard preparation while tho Pulmonic Syrup, as a cure of coughs and colds, maybe regarded as a prophylacteric against consumption in any of its forms.
Price of the Pulmoptc Syrup and Sea-weed Tonio, & bottle, or $7.50 a half doxen. Man. drake Pills, 25 cents a box. For sale by all dreg, gists and dealers.
