How We I'scd lo be Physicked. Who does not remember the time when spring purgation was considered indespensable to summer health? No matter fer wry faces, the inevitable salts and senna, rhubarb, or calomel and ialap, must be administered. These "spring medicines," he youngsters were told, were to keep them hale and hearty during tliesummer. We all know now that this was a falacy that new vigor, not depiction, is what is required at the commencement of the summer solstice. As a preparation for the enervating effects of oppressive summer weather, a course of IIostetter's Stomach Bitters is highly expedient. This famous vegetable .preparation has three prominent properties: It renovates, purifies, and regulates all the functions of the body. It is composed exclusively of pure vegetable productions, viz: the essential principle of Monongahela Rj'e, and the most efficacious tonic and alternative roots, barks, and gum1 known to the medical botanist.-!. Hence, it is an absolutely safe medicine, and no tincture of the Pharmacopoeia can compare with it cither in purity, or in tho variety of its objects, and its comprehensive results. Happily for mankind, the theory that it was necessary to prostrate a patient in order to cure him, is f.irever exploded, and the true philosophical doctrine that vigor is the great antagonist of diiease, has taken its placc. Ilostetter's Bitters is an invigorant, and hence it is the proper medicine for the feeble at this most trying season of the year.

Be sure that you obtain the genuine article, as there aro innumerable vile imitations in the market. Look to the ornamental stamp, the engraved label, and the name blown into the glass. Ilostetter's Stomach Bitters is sold in bottles only

The Mnndra&e Tills nro composed of one of Nature's noblest iiltls -the Podopiiillum Peltatnm. They possess ail the lilood-searchlnt', alterativo properties of culoiuol, but, unlike calomel, they

LEAVE NO STING BEHIND." The work of cure Is now beginning. Tho vitiated and mucous deposits in the bowela nod in tho alimentary canal aro ejected. The liver, lileo a clock. Is wound uo. It arouses from its torpidity. The stomach acts responsively, nnd tho patient begins to Ceel that ho is getting, at last,

A SUJ'PI.Y OF GOOD BLOOD. The Pea-wonil Tonic, in conjunction with tlio I'iii*. permeates and assimilates with tho food. Chvilttcation Is now progressing without its previous tortures. Digestion becomes painless.and the cure is seen to be at hand. There is no moro flatulence, no e.vaeerbatlou of life stomach. An appetite sets In.

Now comes the greatest Blood Purifier ever yet given by an Indulgent father to suffering man. Sehenelt's Pulmonic Syrup comes in ta nerform its functions and to hasten and completo tho cure. It enters at onco upon its work. Nature cm not be cheated. It collects and ripens tho impaired and diseased portions of the lungs. In the form of gatherings, It prepares them ft)r expectoration, nnd lo! In a very slnsrt tlrno tho malady is vanquished, the rotten throne that It occupied is renovated and made new, and tho patient, in all tho dignity of regained vigor, stops forth to enjoy the manhood or womanhood that was

GIVEN UP AS I.OST.

Tho second thing is, the patients must stay In a •warm room uiUil tlicv get well it is almost impossible to prevent takln. cold when the lungs are diseased, but it must bo proventod or a euro can not lie offoctod. Fresh air and riding out, especially in this section of the country, in tho •(all and winter season, are all wrong. Physicians who recommend that courso lose their patients. if their lungs are badly diseased and yet, because they are in the liouso they must not sit down quiet tliev must walk about the room as much and us fast as the strength will bear, to get no a good circulation of blood. Tho patients must'keep in good spirits—be determined to get well. This has a great deal to do with th%ippetite, and Is the great point to pain. 1

To despair of cure after such evidence of Us possibility in the worst eases, nnd moral certainty in nil others, is sinful. Dr. Schenck's personal statement to the Faculty of his owu cure was in these modest words:

Manv years ago I was In tho last stages or consumption contined to my bed, and at olio time my phvsicians thought that 1 could not llvo a week then, liko drowning man catching at straws, I heard of and obtained the preparations which 1 now offer to the public, and they niado a perfect cute of mo. It seemed to me that 1 could feel them penetrate my whole system. Tliev soon ripened tho matter In lay lungs, and 1 would spit up moro than a pint of offensive yellow matter every morning for long time.

As soon as that began to subside, my cough, fever, pains, and night sweats all began -o leavo me, and my appetite became so great that It was with difficulty that 1 could keep from eating too ranch. 1 soon gained ray strength, uud havo grown In flesh ever since. "I was weighed shortly nfter my recovery, added tho Doctor, then looking liko a mere skeleton my weight was only ninety-seven pounds mv present weight i.- two hundred and twenty-live (226) pounds, nnd for years 1 have enjoved"uninterrupted health." l)r. Sehenck has discontinued bis professional visits to Now-York and Boston. He or his son, Dr .1. II. Schenck, Jr., still continue to see patients at their office. No. 15 North Sixth Street. Philadelphia, every Saturday from9 A.M. toS P.M. Those wno wish a thorough examination with the Kosplromctcr will be charged $5. The llespirometer declares the exact condition «f the lungs, nnd patients can readily learn whether they are curable or not.

The directions for taking the medicines oro adapted to the Intelligence even of 11 child. FoU low these directions, and kind Nature will do the rest, excepting that in some cases tho Mandrake l'ills are to bo taken in increased doses tho three medicines need no other accompaniments than the amplo Instructions that accompany them: First create appetite. Of returning health, hunger Is tho most welcome symptom. When it comes, as it will come, let the despairing at once bo ef good cheer, (iood blood at one* follows, the cough loosens, the night sweat ta abated. In a short timo both ot these morbid symptoms aro gone forever.

Dr. Schenck's medicines are constantly kept -n tens of thousands of families. J\S a laxative or purgative, the Mandrake Pills area standard preparation whllo the Pulmonic Syrup, ns a euro of coughs and colds, may he regarded as a prophylacteric agalust consumption in auy of its forms.
