A woman with a child entered a photograph gallery the other .day, and previous to placing it for a picture the woman subjected the youngster to a vigorous spanking. The artist interfered, when he was informed by the woman that she was only trying to get up a fine color in the child's face in order that it might be rep resented in the picture with blooming cheek*. She was somewhat surprised to learn that the matter of color in a photograph was quite an after consideration that the machine to take colors just as they stood was not yet invented.

THE SHOW TO DAY.—Who of us bot have a sneaking love for a good circus, with its gaily caparieoaed horses, beautifully ornamented wagons, the bright and sparkling dftsses of the wonderful performers,. the side-splitting jokes ol the clows, or his ridiculous pranks played on tlyQ. ring-master. From our boyhood we have always -hailed with feelings of delight and ecstacy the announcement of a circus in our midst. Notwithstanding the fact that the jokes of the clown may by somewhat aneient,, the athletic performances commonplace, and other things in proportion) a circus always sends a thrill of pleasure coursing through our veins, aid when a circus such as that managed by the old veteran John Robinson, presents itself to our notice, we cannot help but feel the throbbing of our younger days, and the Bpirit prompting usts once more visit the mysterious and fikscinatingattractions of the canvass and sawdust circle. John Robinson's Circus and Menagerie will arrive in the city this morning- and give two performances, afternoon and evening* What it consists of is thus told by the Cincinnati Times

It was our pleasure to visit the Great Zoological and'Equestrian. Combination now -holding, forth at the Qtreen City Rink, and-we must say that never in our experience have we witnessed such a lavish and profligate expenditure on the trappings and paraphernalia of a traveling Circus as Mr. Robinson has presented to the people of Cincinnati on this his opening of the season.

Besides his splendid collection of birds, beasts and reptiles, comprising twentylive cages, be has the handsomest, best equipped, and most complete troupe of artistes and artists ever brought before any public-. Principal among his troupe are the celebrated Robert Stickney, the greatest horseman of the age John Wilson four-horse equestrian John Robinsony trick rider George Sloman, equestrian and acrobat Bbyd Robinson, leaper and equilibrist Master F. Robinson and G. iN. Robinson the dashing and charming Petite Minnie Ida Stickney, Mile. Frances, Mad. Gertrude, Mad. Margaret, and a number of others celebrated for their gracefulness and proficiency in their specialties. The company also comprises five great clowns, as follows: Sam. Stickney, who is with.out a rival, Wm. Conrad, F. Robinson, John Lowlow and Archie Campbell, who manage, by their drolleries and eccentricities, to keep tbe audience in a roar from the commencement to the end of the en tertainment.

It is superfluous for us to undertake to particularize on the excellence of any par fticular performer where all are so near perfection^ We have only this to say in conclusion*, that never has so complete a circus been exhibited in this city, and the targe, fashionable and enthusiastic audiences that have been present on the past •two nights reiterate our humble opinion when we say, that Robinson's Great Combination is the finest circus now travel ing. We advise all to go and take their families with them.

THE SINCERE THANKS of this community are due to President Grant) for permitting the Postoffice at the Confederate Roads to be closed in order that the Post Master, (Petroleum V. Nasby,) can favor us with his imitable production (in search of the Man of Sin.)
