Burning and Shaking.
By a ridiculous misapplication of language, invalids arc sometimes said to "enjoy very poor health," but iVis not on record that any human being was ever spoken of as enjoying chills and fever. And yet thero are thou sands, at this moment, in one or the other the two stages of the disorder, who might just as well have avoided it as not. If there anything demonstrable in therapeutics, it that Hostetter's Stomach Bitters is an anti dote to intermittent fevers. No instance ca be cited in which it has been taken, eithtr as a safeguard against this class of diseases or as.a remedy for them, and failed to produce the desired effect. The season when malarious fevers are rife, has commonced, and no inhabitant of any district subject to theii visitations should be without this great pre-
ventive and remedy. Indeed, it is a most _PyliuIilLn, potent protection against all the ailments which prevail in the spring months- From marsh and pool, and from all moist soils are now rising the mephitic elements which give birth to fever, indigestion, biliousness, colics and a whole host of epidemic and other maladios. Aid tho system to resist them, Energize and regulate all the animal junctions with this reinforcing agent. This precaution is as necessary in cities as in new settlements, for malarious fevers are now almost as common in the great centres of population as on the borders of the southern bayous and marshes and the rich agricultural regions of the west. The preventive and remedy is accessible to all. Who will be unwise enough to brave recklessly the danger it would avert?

TIVKS TO C,0 TO FLORIDA /.V 'v •i'l' irxXTj.r. jfvrt
ATiSfi for Uio last tliir:y-fh-o years devoted my whole time and attention lo tho etudv ot'lting diseases and consumption, I feel that I understand fully the coiirse that oimlit lo be pursued to restore a tolerably bad ease if diseased lungs to htalthy roundness. *1 lie lirst ami most important step b, furthepallcr.t to avoid taking Cold and the best of all places on tliis continent for this purpose, in winter, i3 Florida, well down In tlio State, where the temperatarc is regular, and not subject tosneh variations as in more northern latitudes. I'alatka 13

point 1 can reeommend. A good hotells Kept there by rotennan. Last v. inter I saw several per-sonsthL-re whose lanes hr.il been badly diseased, but who, under the healinj IVid uence of tho climate and rav medicines, were gelt in-/ v.-cll.
One hundred miles father down the river is a pointwlilch I would pr fa- to I'alatka, as the umpcraturcis raorc o.vrn, aiul the aiv dry and bracing. McUonville and Enterrriso are located there. I should give a decided preterciico to itellonville: it is two miles from river or lake, and It seems almost Impossiiileto tako cold there. The tables in I- lorida m'rht be hotter, and patients complain at times: hut tli-.t is a good slgM. as it indicates a return of apnetite and, when this 13 tho case, thry generally increase in lleth, am! then tho lunvs met heal.
Jacksonville, llibernia. Green Cove, and many ot!i-'r places in v-.rioiis pnrta of Florida, can be tali ly reeoi):i:i?!i''"(i to coim rptives in winter. reasons foreiiyingsoare, liiat j..i::onts are less liable to take coitl there than wnere thero Is a less even tcmrerauire: and it is not i»ccm*.ry «o £::y, that, where a. consumptive per.-ca exposeshirr.seJ to frequent colds, h3 is certain to die shortly: therefore u:v al .ii:ois, go well d.i'.vi". into the Slate. prevailing east w!:ii'3 uiiii logs loraHne

For fifteen years prior to 1 61,1 \.as pn.iecsionnllv in Kmt York, V.osleii, i'.altimore,uw.l 1 luiai.Llpltia every week, where 1 saw and examine.! en an average ti\ lnmclred patients a week. A pnetico EOextensive, embraein.,' every possible phoseet lung disease, has enabled mo to in ljrstand thedisease fully mid hence r.ty cauli' ii in regard to takiM co'ldf. tainnt'iorlda, nearly
everybody is u-in Pchenek'.i
Mandrake Viils for tho ciiinato is more li«ejy to lirodiu bilious habits than raorc northern latitudes. It is a well-established fact, that natives of Florida rarely dia of consumption, especial.y thopo of tho southern part. On the other hand, in New England, one-third at least of the population die of this terriblo disease. In the Middle Mates, it does not prevail
EO
largely still there arc many
thou anJs of oases ihere. Wiat a vast percentage ef lit'o would bo caved if consumptives were as easily alarmedin regard totakin:-' trrsh colds as tncy are about searii tf.-vcr, £ma!l-pox,A c. I but tiiey are not they take what they term a little cold, vuueli they are credulous ciiou to believe will wear oil in a fewdavs. 'ihey pay no attention to it, ami -hence it lav's tho foundation for another and arvttherstili, until tho lungs are diseased ooyond all hope of cure. ily advice to persons wuose lungs nro atvected, even slightly, is to lay in a stock of Schenck Pulmonic Syrup, Schenck's Seaweed 1 onic, and Schenek's Jtandrako l'ills, and go to Florida. I recommend these particularmcdicmes, because 1 am thoroushly acquainted with their action. I«noiv, that, where thsy arc used in strict accordance wit.i my directions, they will do the work that is required. .This accomplished, nature will do the rest. Uhe physician who prescribes for cold, couth, or nisht sweats, and then advises the patient to walk or ride out every day, will be cure to have a corpse on his hands before long.
Jlyplanis, to givo my three medicines in accordance with tho printed directions, except in soir.c cases where a freer use of the iiandrako l'ills is necessary. Sly object Is, to givo tone to the stomach,—to get up a good appetite. It is always a cood siKnwhen a patient begins to grow hungry: I Pave hopes of suck. With a relish tor food, and the tratiUcation of that relish, comes good bloeu. and with it more flesh, which is closely tollowed by a healing of the lungs, —then tho cough Icoscp. and abates, too creeping chills and clammy ni l:t sweats no longer prostrate and annoy, and tlio patient gets well, provided ho avoids taking cold. iow, thero are many consumptives who have not the means to go to Florida, the question mey be asked, Is there no hops for such/ Ccrtamiy thcrcis. Jly advice to such is, and ever lias been, to slay in a warm room durinitho winter, with a tcmpcraturo of about se.vp»r degrees, whuJh should be kept regularly at that point by means of a thermometer. Let such a patient tako his exercise within tho limits ol tho room by walk.nj, up and down as much as bis strength will permit, in order to keep up a healthy circulation of t.ie blood. I havo CHreu thousands tiy this system, ana can do go again. Consumption is as easily cured as any other disease, if It is taken in tinio, and the proper kind of treatments pursued. he tact stands undisputed on record, that fcchenck 1 ulmonic Svrup, Mandrake l'ills, and .seaweed Tonic ha\o cure* vcrv many of what seemed to bo hopeless cases of consumption. Go where yojj^y.'i tl, you til be almost certain to find sotr poor onsunijit.i who has been rescued from the very jaws ot death

the Mandrake rills sic concerned,
everybody should keep a supply of ..hem oil hand. They act on tho liver better than .••ikniel, and lcavo none of its hurtful effects behind. In fact, they arc cxcclK'nt in u'l casc-s where a mcdicine ia required. If you liave Ico freoJv ol' fruit, and diarrliccu ensues, a uoju ot tnn Mandrakes will euro you. li you arc subject to sick licadaclie, take a dose ot tho ^lanun-ucs, and they will relieve you in two lioura. 11 you would obviate tho cf/cct of acjiange ot free indulgence in fruit, tak« one of the Mandrakes every night, and you may then drin«c wutcr, and cat water-melons, poars, appiea, pluius. e:ieiicg, or corn, without therihk ot being inn do feiek Iher.i.
