vynnkf 7?iyE I*?" is jtaat now 9 yprj. i^Mnplicate^gnestiaa which we defy any of pur citizens to satisfactorily answwjfor Terre Haute is grievously afflicted with a diversity of time entirely too complicated for convenience or punctuality. The railroads run by one sore of time, the public schools by another, each factory by its own, and blows its whistle accordingly, while each particular jeweler haa his own time varying a few minutes from his neighbor's, and the old town clock away up there in the steeple^ kas its own time, which, if not correct time, is, at least, what most young me» indulge in— high old time." Mechanies, working by the day, goto their labe* by. the slowest time and quit by the fastest, and thereby their en»pT«»rers are the losers. Now it ia time tHat sdmething be done to adjust the time in this city, so that scholars can get to school, mechanics ta thoir work, passengers to the cars and bmimM mem meet their engagements «n. thne. If it can't he done any other way, let the Council appoint some one to find out just what time it is, and then-tell the people abont it, so they may know where they atand, and be ahle to answer, the question ."what time is it?"

Saturday
night, about eleven o'clock, officers Crowe and Vandeverj qujetly .knocked at a door in the (bird story of the Opera Souse sfcloon, and as the-little wicket in the door visa drawn sside by the man on the lookout, Slie officers stepped aside so that they could not be seen. The man inside then unlocked the door and Opened it to see who was '•disturbing the meeting," when Crowe and Vandever quickly pais' ed in, to find in a'brilliantly lighted and lifruriowdy furnished room, thirteen men seated areund a table playing at Faro.' Great was their connternition ai the sight of.the offioere,' and the table was quickly cleared. The cards and other instruments were taken in charge, tend each of the players required to give bopd for his appearance before the Mayor this morning at ten o'clock. Two of the men reside, at Springfield, Illinois, and the others are esidents of this city.

passes that boys are not seen hanging to the rear end of passing wagons, "stealing a ride," and we have been called on to record quite a number of serious acci* dents resulting therefrom. On Saturday morning a small boy, about ten years old, named Giesler, livingin the Early Block, was seriously injured and perbarps maimed for life. While swinging from the rear end of one of R. L. Thompson's flour and grain wagons, one of his legs was caught in the wheel,.and wound round the hub in such a manner that it Was necessary, to take the wheel off in order to extricate him from his painful position. Dr..Stone dressed the broken limb, and time will tell the extent of the injury sustained.
