SPECIAL NOTICED.
A Lesson ofVatnic.
Torpor is the characteristic of winter. Vegetation dies or falls into a state of trance The whole aspect of inanimate nature teach es us that there is a paralyzing influence in the air, and ought
to teach us that our bodies
require an increase of vital power to contend with it. Some of even the warm-blooded animals bury themselves in the earth and remain in a state of partial stupefaction until the season is over, and the elixir of the springsunfhine stimulates their stagnant blood, and restores their vigor. But man although he feels the influence of tho season, can protect himself against its inclemency. He has fuel to warm him externally, and can tone and strengthen internal organization and endow it with the extra amount of vitality which the circuinptances require. Of all invigorants that have ever been recommended for this purpose, Hostetter's Stomach Bitters is the purest and the best. Fortified by the daily use of this wholesome .vegetable tonic, the human system may defy the chills and damps of winter in any latitude. Its effect is to promote a brisk and regular circulation of the blood, and activity in all the secretive organs. Vithout the slightest tendency to produce fever, it imparts a healthful glow to the surface, and stimulates the exterior vesstls to discharge, in the form of gentle perspiration, the uselesN matter eliminated from tne blood. Thus the system is kept unclogged. Fever and ague, biliousness, indigestion and colic, all of which are the common consequences of tho searching damps and low temperature of winter, may be avoided (as well as cured) by a course of this genial tonic and alternative.
The Imperishable Perfume! As at ule, the perfumes now in use hare no permanency. An hour or two after their use there is no trace of perfume left. How different is the result succeeding the use of Murray & Laninan's Florida Water.
Days after Its application the handkerchier exhales a most delightful, delicate and agreeable fragrance. may 5deodey.-

HAVING for tho last tliirty-ilvo years devoted my vliolotimo and attention to the etuily of lung diseases anil consumption, I fed that I understand fully the course that ouilit to bo pursued to restore a tolerably bad case ct diseased lungs to healthy soundness. Ihc first and most important step is. for the patient to avoid taking colu and the best of ail places on this continent for this purpose, in •winter, is Florida, well down in the State, where the temperature is regular, and not subjcct tosuch variations as in more northern latitudes. Falatka Is a point 1 can recommend. A good hotclis kept there by Tetennan. Last winter I saw several persons there whose lungs had been badly diseased, but who, under the healing influence of the climate and my medicines, were getting well.
One hundred mile3 fa: ilier down the river is a point wliieh I would prefer to Talatka, as tho temperature is more even, and the air dry and bracing. Mellonviilo and Enterprise are located there. 1 should give a decidcd preference to Jiellonvillc: it Is two miles from river of lalto, and itseems almost impossibleto tako cold there. 'Use tables in Florida might be better, and patients complain at times but that is a good sipi, as it Indicates a return of appetite and, when this is the case, they generally increase in flesh, and then tlielunt-'s must heal.
Jacksonville, Jlibernia, Green Ove, and many other places in various parts of l':c"ii*\ can bo sal* ly recommended to consumptives v.'nter. M. reasons for saving BO ari\ that pv" are lets liable to take cold there than -w': M-. is a lesa even tcmper.iture: and it is.net i.• ary lo say, that, wliero consumptive person i'..|icse»liims(.-ll to fl-eqtient coliis, he is certain to Uio Elioitiy: therefore my advice is, go well down inrotho Mate, out of the resell of prevailing ea.- wiiuis ami l'ogf Jacksonville, or almost any other of the localitie lhave namiu, will benefit tlioso wlio arc Iuublci. WithatorpM liver, a di'orderedstoir.ach, dernngcf-^ bowels, soro throat,or cmutfi r, tvrtlcose v/hos lunvs arc diseased, a liioro somi.i rn [.oint i.) ear nestlv recominende.J.
For fifteen years prii-r 1'CI v.-as j-n regionally in .New York, l'.ustim, i'.aliiinoro, and hiladelphla every week, where 1 sa-.v aiul examined an average Iivo hundred patients.a, week. A ^r.icticc so extensive, embnicinK cver.v possible" pli:iseofit ng disease, lias enabled uie to f, i.Ie l!=tand tlio disease fully and henco my caution in regard to takinc cold. A pers-m may take Y4i?t -quantities of
Schenek's I'ulmoiiic fivrup, Se'.v.-eeil Tonic, nnd Slandrake l'illj," and yet die if ho djes not avoid taking cold.
In Florida, nearly everybody is u. ins hclienck Mandrake l'ilis for the climate is more likely to produce bilious liabits than more northern latitudes. It is a wcll-cstablished'faet, that natives of Florida rarely die of consftm|tion, especially, those of the southern part. On the other hand, in 'ew England, onc-ihird at least of the population die of this terriblo disease. In tho Middle Mates, it does notprevailsolargely still there arfl^nany thousands of cases there, what a vast percentage of life WouTd bo saved if c6nsnmptives were as easily alarmedln regard toiaking ft esh colds as they are about ecarletfuver,small-pox,A c. I but they aro not: tlicy tako what they term a little cold, which they are credulous enough to believe will wear off in a few days. 1'hey payjio attention to it, and hence it lays tho foundation for another and another still, until tho lungs arc diseased beyond all hopeofcure.
Sly advice to persons whoso lungs aro afrectcd, even slightly, is to lay in a stock ot'Schenck's Pulmonic ijyrup, Schenck's Seaweed Tonic, anil Schenck's Mandrake Tills, and go to Florida. 1 recommend these particularmedicines, because I am thoroughly acquainted with tlieir action. I know, that, where they, are used in strict accordance wltli my directions, tlicy will do the work that is required. This accomplished, nature will do the rest 'ihe physician who prescribes for cold, cough, or night sweats, and then advises the patient to walk or ride out every day, will be sure to have a corpse on his liands before long. accordance with the prmted fllfcctions, except in some cases where a freer use of tlio ilanilrake l'iils is ncccssary. My object is, togive-toncto the stomach.—to get up a good appetite. It is always a ood sign when a patient begins to grow hungry: have Hopes of suck. With a relish for food, and the gratification of that relish, comcs good blood, and with it more flesh, which Is closely followed by a healing of the lungs,—then tho cough loosens and abates, the creeping chills and clammy nii.ht sweats no longer prostrate and annoy, and the patient gets well, provided ho avoids taking cold. jSow, there are many consumptives who have not the means to go to Florida. The question may be asked, Is there no hope for such Certainly thcre is. My advice to such is, and ever has been, to stay In a wann room during tho winter, with a temperature of about seventy degrees, which should bo kept regularly at that point by means of a thermometer. Xet such a patient take his exercise within the limits of tho room by walking up and down as much as his strength will permit, in order to keep up a healthy circulation of the blood. I have cared thousands by this system, ansl can do so agaia. Consumption is as easily cured as any other disease, If it is taken in time, ami the preper a an
other disease,ii icistaKcn kind of treatment ispursuod disputed on record, that Syrup,' Mandrake Tills, and .Seaweed Tonic have

So far as the Mandrake Tills are concerned, everybody should keep a supply of tUtin on hand. They act on the liver better than o*!oiuel, and. leave none of its hurtful eiSocta behind. In fact, they are excellent in all eases where a purgative medicine is required. If you have partaken too freely of fruit, and diarrhoea ensues, a dose of tho. Xandrakos will ctirc you. If you aro subject to' Sick headache, take a dose of tho Mandrakes, and they Will relieve you in two hours. If you would obviate- the effect of a change of wator, or the too Me indulgence in fruit, take ono of tho Mandrakes every night, and you may then drink water, and eat watermelons, pears, apples, plums, peaches, or cont. without tho risk or being made sick by them. They WllLprotcct those who live in damp situations against chills and fevers. Try'them, 'lhey aro perfectly harmless. They can do you good tuiy.
