Mr. and Mrs. N. were the recipients of an almost infinite variety of tin ware—quite enough to last them until their "golden wedding and it was the wish of all who shared their hospitality at the end of the first decade of their married life, that time to come might deal as gentlv with them as time past has done, and that manv trien.ls might fitly celebrate their fiftieth wed ling anniversarv.

MAYOR'S COUKT.—There was but little business transacted in this court yesterday. Ilis Honor, the Mayor, being indisposed, was not able to preside, in consequence of which, Esq's. Denehie and Smith adjudicated the cases in his stead.
A man, whose name is withheld from us, was up on the charge of beating a girl at the Uuntin House. The case was taken before .Justice Denehie, who lined him S10,S0 which he paid, doubtless thinking he was fortunate in getting off so easily.
There was no other case of public interest.
MANAGING mothers sometimes make bad mistake.-.. One of ihis class, with more than one marriageable daughterresides not many thousand miles from Terre Haute, and recently got in tow a nice young man, who would make quite an eligible match for one of them, and
stuck to him with great tenacity, as few better could be found as a son-in-law. One evening this week this desirable party, with a companion, called to have a little pleasant chat with mamma and her daughters. The parlor was fixed up in line style—some of the gravest sort of books being placed on the table, to denote the high intellectuality of the family. Among them was the family Bible. While mamma was busy describing the qualifications—and incidentally the ages —of her daughters, the least interestedyouth opened the Good Book, which had its family record. If Miss Mo'ilie turned out nine years older than mamma represented her, and if the fact damaged that lady's prospects for a son-in-law, it was not her fault but that of the Scriptural record. A morjil can easily be inferred.

TOWXSIUP TRUSTEES.—Attorney General "Williamson settles the vexed question of when the newly elected Township Trustees enter upon flie duties of their office, thus:
Under the act of IS-jO, 1 and If,
0OG,
the township trustees make their annual settlement in March of each year. This enables each trustee to go out of ofiicc in full settlement of his official duties, and then pass his records over to his sue ccssor as soon as elected and qualified. But the change in the election law now takes him out of office in the middle of lis term as created under the old law.
These duties will be harmonized Inproper amendments to the law, changing the time of settlements and final reports to the new order of things.
In the meantime, I would advise the present incumbents to make full reports and settlements of their respective duties, and file the same with the Auditors of their several counties for the action of the County Commissioners at the proper time, and surrendering their official records and papers to their respective successors in office, leaving these apparent conflicts and omissions to be suplpied al the coming session of the Legislature.

Musical—Chorus Class.—I
wish to
form a Chorus Class, for the purpose of cultivating and elevating in this community the taste for good music. I desire all to come, who love music. There is to my certain knowledge,'enough musical talent in this city lo form one of the finest chorus classes in the country. And in order to induce many, if not all, to come, I will make the following proposition to you 1 will give you eif/ht lessons per month in chorus singing for one dollar. I will furnish a room to meet In, fuel, and light. And would say to those who do not feel able to pay a dollar, come and I will not charge you anything. All I ask of you is promptness and faithfulness in attending the meetings. "Without that we cannot do anything. There is no use waiting for some fellow to come along, who tells you, he can teach you in three or four days, as much as any musician knows cannot be taught in as many months. He puts your moncv in his pocket, goes off. and leaves nothing worth having behind. I will meet all who desire to join this class, next Friday night (Oct. 21,1 from 7 to 9 o'clock in my room.
