bined armies of Princes FWCDEKICK and CHARLES encountered Marshal MACMAHON" near Beaumont and drove him back, after a fearful battle, on the Belginn frontier. The Germans made heavy caj11]res of stores and men. These results when coupled with lhe fine showing of"lhe last year, speak loudly in favor of General GRANT'S administration, and the honest and persistent efforts of Secretary BOUTWEI.L towards the continuous reduction of the public debt.
We hope Mr. VOORIIF.ES will not have the effrontery to tell his next audience that there has been no reduction of the National debt during August, in the face of Secretary BOUTWELL'.S lignres. The bald falsehood, denying the established fact of the constant monthly reduction of the public debt by Gen. THE DEMOCRACY of Indiana have been catering for the German vote, tor many years past, and have been endeavoring to create the impression that it was in close sympathy with that class of citizens. It has succeeded, to some extent, in this fraudulent pretense, and numbers within its ranks many Germans whose intelligence and observation ought to have led them elsewhere. The occurrence of the war now progressing between France and the Germanic States has served the purpose of opening the eyes of the Germans of our State to the hollow pretensions of the Democracy in this respect. Any Get-Ulan voter of ordinary observation cannot have failed to note the position of the Democracy on the European war. As a party it was for France in the outset, and so continues. It has not a word of rejoicing for the success of the German armies. Its entire sympathies are with Napoleon and tfie French arms. Its press throughout the country, is all antiGerniau in its feeling and enunciations. The present conduct of#the Democracy toward the Germans ought to satisfy them that all past pretensions ol' friendship are fdrW. On^he other band the Republican partv has been true in its conduct toward our German ielloW-citizens. MULU" FIGHTING.
Lc Public says the government ha received no official dispatchea to-day inconsequence of cessation of telegraphic communication between Sedan and Metiers, but it is certain battles were fought on Tuesday aud Wednesday. The first was a .surprise, which remit cd in partial panic in tbe corps of Gen. FaiLley, who awaiting the arrival of Gen. Vimpflen, his successor, still commanded. There were also separate and detached conllict.s, in which our troops displayed great heroism. but there waia want of unity during the engagement aud Prussians claim a victory. (Jut in the battle of ve?lerday there is no question bnt that MacMahon had a great succe-.-. against the troops of both the Princes. Bazaine win rioi en gaged ye.stc.rdav. but it. is known he today continues the work s.o energetically begun bv MacMahon.
RECENT MILITARY EVENTS. La Patrie says semi-officialIv thatthe misrepresentations of foreign journals under Prussian influences render it necessary to make clear statement of acts as to recent military events.
Marshal McMahon in carrying out one of his movements has had several engagements withtheenemv, in all of which he has been successful. He effected the crossing of the Meuse safely.
At Longwv we gained a victory. The Prussians were defeated after a desperate fight, and took refuge on the territory of Luxemburg, where they are to be disarmed and obliged to remain. This information was just received here and comes from no less a source than that of the French Representatives at Luxemburg, The journal adds, it is plain from the situation at Longwy, Thionville «nd Metz, that the plans of McMahon have so far been successfully executed.

A GREAT ROBBERY. S 4
Yesterday morning it was discovered that the great safes in the rooms of thc Board of Missions, of the Methodist Book Concern, t)95 Broadway, had been robbed, and property to the amount of one hun dred and fifty thousand dollars carried away. On entering thc room in the morning a scene of confusion presented itself. The floor was thickly strewn with papers, large leather wallets and bill books, and here and there a tin box forced open, and among the many papers thrown about the room were found to be a large number of registered United States bonds.
No clue to the perpetrator or perpetrators of the robbery seemed to present itself to any of the reverend secretaries.— On examination thc safes were found to be emplied of everything of negotiable value, including a scrvicc of silver plate belonging to Rev. Mr. Depew, and otlier articles of silver ware, the property of clergymen who had used the tacilities offered by the two large safes as a sort of safe deposit. Some small wallets contained the savings of a life time of frugalitv and economy by humble parish preachers and others, and larger ones were well filled with tbe surplus accumulations of for tunate and fashionable prelates. Such of the bonds as were registered were quietly thrown on the floor, and those which were payable to bearer were invariably removed.
The largest single loser is one of the secretaries of the Missionary Board, who was robbed of §15,000. it seems very strange to a casual observer that the robbery should have been successfully performed by any one not well acquainted with arrangements, and familiar with places. There are two night watchmen on the outside of the building, and one on the inside, and the onlj' persons having rooms on the floor, with 1 lie exception of an artist and one' other person, are churchmen connected with some of the many Methodist concerns. The money of the society was deposited in a different place, and that of the Hook Concern was in a safe in another part of Unbuilding.

The appearance of wagons and carts, conveying movables, and the constant passage of heavy loads of hay ami forage of various kinds, looks singular, otherwise iherc is nothing in the aspect of Paris that would impress strangers a.s unusual, or give an idea that a great calamity impended over lhe capital. Whatever is thought of jjthe situation, it is probable dangers in I lie eyes of the people are at a distance. There is certainly nothing in the physiognomy of the lovely city that gives ii a melancholy look of being doomed to great damage or destruction al lie hands of a foreign foe.
Everything goes on just as usual, ^hops all open and gaily dressed, though business appears to be following its usual course.
Such is not thc case, lor the departure of thousands of strangers has given a severe check to trade. This is not apparent to the mass of crowds thronging on the streets and frequenting cafes.
At night the usual crowds throng the Bouleva' ds, setting and talking as in former time. True, there is less^ayety and animation, and conversation is more serious ami earnest, but all talk and discuss as before.
