Block Coal in Sullivan County.

From the sample of the drillings that were pumped up, it appears to be very fine bright Block Coal, perfectly free from sjilphur. Thevein i- estimated to be about seven feet thick, it may exefeed that. The proprietors who have been practical miners nil their lives, both in this country and in England, and have had great experience in both countries, have been wishing for some time to test wheth"er there was not other veins under the one they are now working. Their practical knowledge led them to believe so and they haj.g come within afoot of the distance that thoy told Professor Collott
Professor Cox assistant) they would find the coal, and they found everything just as they had predicted:they would &id it that is 'a* Tegards the strata through which they should pass, proving that, in general, practical knowledge i* superior to theorctif*ll. For the

One of the proprietbre^jtys from the practical knowledge he has of this State alone, he fells quite confident there are two othet~veins still below where they have drilled, one vein thirty feet and the other seventy feet.
They are, indeed, a very enterprising company, and well deserve the name of Pioneer, and are well wqrthy all the support they get, for the simple reason that they hare Sone more towards the improvement, or rather of making the

They have put up anew engine, raised a new head gearing: thirty-three feet from, the level pf jgrjund, .and have finilcs working in the mine. The Improvements put on the property of the mine, -top the ket twelve mouths, are estimated at $20,000. They have facilities for raising twenty cars a day, and alj. coal goes over a.six$een foot^creen before being weighed. The time taken to drill the forty-seven feet was a little over a week, night and day.

To niy Palrrtiis.—I am under many obligations to you, f^r the liberal p'atl-oti-ageof the "Terre Haute Musical'' histituh-.'' I leel deeply grateful,- for the confidence yon have placed in ioe. Never shall that, confidence lie betrayed. I "will faithfully do, what 1 have promised—to give my pupil.1! thorough liniflic^l education. Yet in order to do'tlutt, you must farther as-
siatme, in It&ving.my-pupils perform their ley & Denilng's, August itOtli talL» assigned them at home. YoU niur.t see, that they practice their lessons given them. The best teacher in the world can do nqthing with a child, that, will not
practice. Give them a regular hour for practicing, and let nothing ehe interfere with that duty.. You must not expect your little daughter, that has just commenced to take music lessons, to entertain you with little pieces, at the end of two or three months. You must remember, that I am giving your child a thorough musical education, andnuch.practice is incompatible with the end in view. I will urge her on, as fast as I can, but iviil do n&thing 'to retard her progress
Let n^e do as I think besf. in this Ulster and proteise you 'gfcrMus resrtlf

To the several church choirs of Terre Haute I would say that my rooms are at their service at any time, when I am not using them. If they desire any drilling from my side, they will find my charges very moderale. My fellow-teachers here, who wish to see how I teach, will always be welcome. I will be in my rooms nearly all day and would be very glad to see many of them. You, my patrons, have.a standing invitation to my
rooms. If you wish any change in th» course of your child, come to me and tell me about it, I will try to please voi5 as lar as I can. Remember, that a teacher Looks far more for your. approval, than your money. If yoilr child does well, if you are pleased with its progress, come and teil me so. Also the contrary.
