Zso ARRESTS have yet been made of parties engaged in the fighting and cutting affair of last Saturday night. Sheridan, who is said to have done the cutting, is reported to be in the city, but keeps himself out of the way of the officers. It said that he is badly beaten by the men who attacked him.
GEO. L. HALT, arrived in the city last night. He is a partner iif Luke Schoolcraft in the future management of the Academy of Music, formerly Theatre Comique, of this city, which will shortly be opened. Mr. Hall is not unknown to our citizens, and Luke Schoolcraft makes everything he undertakes a success.
SAM. COLLYEH,- the noted Baltimore light-weight pugilist, made a flying visit to our city yesterday. He left during the day for St. Louis to go into training tinder Barney Aaron for his approaching fight with Billy Edwards. He was quiet and modest in his demeanor,.and sought none of the usual notoriety of persons devoted to the ring.
OUR YOUNO FRIEND Tom Walmsley, who has recently engaged his services to Bartlett & Co., has been very successful in procuring subscriptions for the popular work, "The Life of Charles Dickens, by Dr. R. S. McKenzie." Already one hundred names have been taken and the list is rapidly increasing. Bartlett &.Co. have the agency for tlie nine counties comprising our Congressional District.
A PACKAGE of intensely interesting letters, written by a young lady in Indianapolis to a married gedtleman in ^fiis city, was found on Seventh street yesterday. The person who had the illfonanners to read them, threatens to hand^tbem to The gentleman's wife. Should hfV-do so, domestic discord and tierce civil strife' will be the result. We suppose the pusilanimous fellow who hold- the tirp-hrmd want" to be bought off.

Wr. clip the following from the editorial columns of the Spectator, a leading In^urnnee.journal:
The New England Mutual is a Company that needs no better recommendation" than its works and its standing. There is nothing of the charlatan in its composition. It seeks no meretricious display, and sets up nothing of the tgr?u* filling order of no-called new features. For its old features—sterling fidelity to the interests of its members, fair promises strictlv adhered to, unvarying economy, reducing to its members, as iar as possible, the' cost of insurance, and the consummate ability which directs the administration of its affairs arc sp good and so complete as to need nothing but their own eloquence to coiinneiui theiu. A solid company, a great company, it is one of that very small class, of which all that is or can be said, must, of necessity, be strongly in its lavor.
This staunch old company has always taken the first rank in Life Insurance and still maintains tl»at position.
