immense wine cellar, at his vineyard

north of the city. It is twentylive feet

The

matrimonial market was alarm

pair who gave a sentimental yearning of "Two souls with but a single thought. Two hearts that beat as one," and applied to the County Clerk for the

necessary papers to form the unit.

A Crave

anything

significant in the fact that the Democratic speaking stand is located upon the old

grave yard? Is that party on the verge

of the grave? Certain it is that the few

bones that rest in that ancient coinetery

are not more fossilized than are the lead-

farmers are warned to be on the

lookout for swindlers who deal in patent

rights. They are operating in different

parts of tho State with great success, and

will probably give our county a call.

They generally travel with patent roofing or lightning rods, and sell to farmers,

taking his note or if he cannot read, his

bond. The note has certain conditions

in it which render its negotiation impos

sible,. hut these conditions are erased by

chemical means, leaving it an oidinary

note of hand, which they sell at a dis

count to other parties. In case the man cannot road they till out a mortgage on

some portion of his property, and'repre

senting it as a bond for performance of the contract, induce him to sign it with

his mark, having persons handy to wit

ness it 011 this they raise- money, and

leave the farmer to get out of it the best

way he can.

This may not be all the ways tliev have

of swindling, but should be sufficient to

put all 011 their guard dgainst them.

Read carefully the notes they ofler you to

sign, then copy them and make theperson receiving them certify to the correctness

of the copy you are then safe. We would

advise others to be very careful about

buying notes from men of whom you

know nothing, for the probabilities are

that if you get them for one cent 011 a

dollar you would make a poor bargain.

There are, of course, men in this busi

ness who are strictly honest, but unless

you know who you are dealing with, take

the precautions we have suggested, and

such others as may commend themselves

to you. The honest dealer will lind no

fault with your precautions, while one who is endeavoring to swindle may make

objections to being balked of what lie

considers his legitimate prey.
