From earliest antiquity to the cat tine the use of tj»ebrae» looked upon of great ^importance to tbe prosperity of community. In our own day mod in jur country where iron crops out on almost every hill-side, this latter metal has largely superseded the use of brass, and we find that only the more delicately wrought pieces of machinery arc composed ofbrMs. Htncc wncn W6 speak of Brass Works the mind naturally pictures a manufactory where fine ard ornamental workmanship is done. Of this clsss of workmanship there is nothing that deserves a more extended notice than their improved Patent Globe Valve. It has longbeen a matter of perplexity to machinists to know how to regrind a leaky valve without disarranging a large pert of the machine. Many have been the precious hours lost in unscrew ing, taking apart, grinding at much ex pense and then refitting a valve. Messrs Stierle & Loeper have devised a very sim pie contrivance that will obviate a greater part offtroable and expense.

Netiher will we give an outline of the manner in which .they cast their brum and composition metals, and their antifriction and Babfikett metals, bnt will merely say that they are prepared to fill orders for any of these. Before we leave this establish inent we must not fail to speak of anew niece of machinery which they have rast perfected, a patent Corn Shelter. This machine is of every recent invention and Messrs. Stierle & Leoper have just introduced it. From the sfmIP«ity, cheapness, and perfect working of ft we predict sucesa. he corn is put in at the top where it falls on an iron cylinder upon whose surface small short projections are cast. Unless all these processes are duly performed, disease of some sort is inevitable, and the best of all medicinal acents for preserving or restoring the tone and regulating the action of the three organs —(the stomach, liver and intestines)—b7 which tbe three-fold work is earned on, is Hostetter's Stomach Bitters. Indigestion is generally accompanied by constipation, and the gentle cathartic operation of the Bitters it no less important in cases of this kind, than its tonio effect upon the stomach and the biliary gland. Beauty of person as well as health, depends in no small degree upon the rtful&rity of th6 oxcr©tive iUnctions. A sallow complexion, a thick obwue coarse skin, tainted breath rush of blood to the head, loss of memory, headache, and extreme mental depression, are the usual accompaniments of eestiveness. A course of the Bitters will infallibly relieve, and finally banish these obnoxious symptoms, while invigorating the stomach and promoting healthy action in the liver* This genial vegetable stomachic and alterative, strikes at disease in its primary sources, the assimilating, secretive and expulsive organs, and the cures it effects are consequently thorough and complete.

Their success is not only attributed to a perfect knowledge of their business, but also to their mode of buying and selling their goods. Being supplied with abundant capital all their purchases are made for cash and from first hands, every change in the market is taken advantage of by their experienced buyer, and when their goods areplaeed up on their counters on Bale, they are oflfered at the lowest possible margin upon eost. The New York Store has beeome one of the most popular institutions of the place.! If good goods at low pricai, kind treatment and fair dealings, can bttild op a trade, the New York Store will take the rank among the the largest business honses of Terre Hante.
THB New York Store ft .located at No 73, Main street, near the Cburt House Square.
From the Terre Haute Journal, Dec. 18, '69 TBADE has now fully begun with our merchants. All are busy as bees to get their geods In order and ready for sale. One of the establishments so engaged is the Hew York Dry Goods Store, No. 73, Main street. Their force of salesmen has been hard at work for the past few days in opening a tiki marking the new purchases just received and which were bought at the great forced sales in the Eastern market. To look at all the muslins, flannels, prints, shawls, dress goods, furs, etc., besides the smaller articles usu? ally kept in a large house of thiti kind, will eertainly be to bay, for, as regards prices, as we know from persnal observation, they are certainly the lowest we ever heard of.
The one price oystem, as adopted by this house, works like a charm. There is no overcharging, no trying to make an extra dime. The dealings at the New York Store are lair and sqaare, and every attention is Shown to all their patrons. It is the constant study of the proprietors to place before their customers any and ail goods at the lowest rates and by charging the lowest per ceatage upon the cost of the goods, the customer receives the direct benefit of purchases made under the market value. It is a well known fact that the New York Store has been offering unusual inducements to buyers since it was opend. The recent heavy declines in all kinds of dry goods2 however, enables them to sell goods still cheaper, as their facilities for buying are anequalled.
There is nothing in the dry goods line bHt what can be Doaght at the greatest advantage at the New Xork Store. Their tremendous stock and low prices are bound to draw customers, and ao one will need complain of having "nothing to wear" if they trade at the New York Store.

Frem the Bratil Miner. We take pleasure in presenting to our readers a short sketch of one of the laigest and most successful Dry Goods House in Terre Haute. The New York Store 73 \f»in street, was opened in September last. The proprietors, young encrgt-lie men, have shown by their unparalleled success that they are thoroughly posted ^n their business and are supplied with HufSeient capital to make all their purchases for cash. The strict adhernnce to the
system, (heir large and al
ways complete stock, and their attention and politeness to every customer, have made the New York Store at once a popular and profitable store to buy at, and tha crowds that daily visit this store, show bast, thatjih* people appreciate the eSorts of Messrs. Wittenberg, Buschaupt i& Go. to eell goods cKcap.^ffm,.
