THE Board of Directors of the St. Louis, Vandalia & Tcrre Ilaute Railroad meet in tliis'city to-day. Col. Thos. Scott, of the Pennsylvania Railroad, and Judge Jewctt, of the Pan Handle Railroad, will be in attendance.

SELF-RAISING FLOUR is a new article now being introduced by Mr. C. I. Ripley, in the Kauffman Block. It does not require yeast, soda or baking powder in its use for bread, Ac. Give it a trial.

COL. WM. M. FRENCH and General Frank White, of the Internal Revenue service, spent several days, las looking into revenue matter's in this vicinity, and left the city on Saturday.

IT IS expected that the Democrats will bring the artesian well and the echo into this canvass-, for councilmen. Wouldn't it be proper to catechise their candidates on these grave questions of public policy? "The people want to know/ you know

sacrifice their personal interests and con venience so far as to consent to perform the onerous duties of Councilman, and permit their friends to nominate themj it is only fair and reasonable that every proper effort should be made to place their election beyond a doubt. It is justly und honestly due to the nominees of the Republican party, that they should receive the vote of every member of their party to-morrow.

YESTERDAY was a beautiful day, the air was exhilarating, the sun shine delightful, and matiy good men in their Sunday best, many pretty ladies, with ele gant spring harness and dainty parasols, and many little children with faces wreathed with smiles and bodies wrapped with nice clean frocks, were out promenading the principal thoroughfares, appa rently glad" that the day was so bright and themselves so happy- A 'A"

EXCURSIONISTS.—On Saturday Thois. S. Jewett, President, D. J. Gray, Vice President of the Pan Handle Route, Col. Scott and G. R. Roberts, Vice Presidents of the Pennsylvania Central, Wm. Shaw, President of the Union Line, and other officials, passed over the new Vincennes road, in a special car from Indianapolis to Evansville, and to-morrow they go to St. Louis over "the new Vandalia road. They are interested in those lines, and are op a tour of inspection.

THE Republican County Executive Committee met last Saturday afternoon and resolved to hold the .County Conven' tion to nominate candidates to be voted for at the October election on Saturday June 11th, and suggested that the Wards and Townships, hold their meetings on the 4th of June, to appoint delegates to the County and Congressional Conventions.

In accordance with A resolution adopted in the Republican County Convention, held last February, the following were appointed a Central Committee: John Haney, Charles Cruft, Samuel Magill, A. Burnett, T. C. Buntin, C. W. Bar. bour, James Burgan and Nicholas Fill beck.

The meeting adjourned to meet on next Wednesday evening,, when officers of the Committee will be elected.

W. H. SCUDDER opened his elegant Ice Cream Saloon on Saturday evening, and the many visitors were agreeably surprised at the wonderful transformation and improvements in this popoular place of resort, which before this season was the most elegant in the city, and surpassed by few like places in the West. The most noticeable change is upon the walls and ceilings. These -have been dressed with decorative papers from the house of W. S. Ryce &. Co.t and the work is a real gem of art, worthy of inspection This art of decorating has of late taken a decidedly advance step, and for the initiation we are indebted to W. S. Ryce & Co., who still take the lead in work. In the decorations of Scudder's saloon, the taste of the artist has been united with the mechanical ingenuity of the mere paper hanger, in producing the highest style of artistic effect this side of real fresco painting.

Mr. Scudder has added this season, an elegant marble soda fountain, properly named the "Alaska," from which is drawn cold, sparkling soda, flavored with the most delicious syrups. With this soda and his palatable creams, Scudder can this season cause a coolness between friends that will be anything but unpleasant.

REAL ESTATE TRANSFERS.-'—The following transfers of real estate were entered upon the Recorder's books during last week:

Zealy Williams to Wesley Z. Williams lot in Dean's subdivision for $220. Moody C. Ripley to Charles U. Moore, 40 acres in Lost Creek township for $1, 600.

Delia Hall to Siinson Jumper, 80 acres in Prairie Creek towsnhip for $500. Samuel Merry to Emma Merry, lot in the city for $1,000.

Mary E. McGee to Harlow C. Thompson, lot in the city for $2,500. Leonard B. Trueblood to Nathaniel Trueblood, 4 acres in Lost Creek township for $250.

George C. Duy to Charles N. Gould, lot in Duy's subdivision for $1,995. Erastus Church to Caroline R. Murphy 1 acre in Sugar Creek township for $60.
