She could now look off" upon the hills, which for thirty years she had not been able to see from the piazza. Thcwe were mistaken who^thought she had no poetry in her soul. You could see it in the way she put her hand under the chin of a primrose or. cultivated the geraneum.

Sitting on the piazza one evening. In her rocking chair,_ she saw a ladder of cloud seV up against the sky, and thought how easy it would be for a spirit to climb it. She saw in the deep glow of the sunset a chariot of fire, and wondered who rode it. She saw a vapor floating ihinlv away as though it were awing ascending, and grandmother muttered in a 'low very ttfne: "a vapor that appeareth for little season, and then vuuisheth away." She saw a hill highef than any she had ever before Keen on the horizon, and on top of it a king's castle. The motion of the rocking chair became slighter until- it stopped. The spectacles fell out of her lap. A child hearing it, ran to pick them up, and cried: "Grandmother, what is the matter?.' She answered not.- She never spoke again. Second sight had come! Her vision had grown better and better. What she could not see how was not worth seeing. Not now, through a glass darkly! Grandmother had no more need of spectacles!

An Important Discovery in Cancertlierapeutcs. At the recent annual scientific meeting held at the New York Medical University, Professor Scott read an interesting paper upon an entirely new method of treating cancer, which give3 promise of the alleviation of much human misery. The treatment of cancers has hitherto been empirical and unsatisfactory—chloride of 2ip nitric acid and arsenic, the remedies usually employed, being painful, danger ous, and unreliable.

Professor Scott's discovery Confute in applying to the surface of the sore the chloride of chromium—a new salt of thin rare metal—incorporated into straraOmium ointment. This preparation in a few hours, converts the tumor into perfect carbon, and it crumbles away. Specimens of cancers thus carbonized were inspected by a number of physicians present, which had the appearance of charcoal, and were easly pulverized between the lingers. The remedy causes little or no pain, and is not poisonous. A considerable number of cancers have been cured by this means, and an agent of such marvelous efficacy must, ere long, be adopted by the entire profession.—Netv York Commercial Advertiser.

A WASHINGTON correspondent gives the following description of a lady's capillary attraction: The profusion and color of her hair would lead one to look upon it as though it had been spun by the nimble fingers of the easy hours as they glided through bright June days, whose sunny rays of light had been caught in the meshes, and were content to go no further. t'-., tv-

Mafdness Paralysis Death! may onsue from using preparations for coloring the hair charged with acetate of lead and sulphur- You may know them by the heavy metallic sediment which has to be shaken up before the disgusting compound can be applied. The "Journal of Chemjstry"says there are thirty of them in the market. There is but one dye in existence which contains no deleterious substance, and that is Cristadoro's Excelsior Hair Dye, which has been carefully analyzed by Professor Chilton, and declared by him to.contain no lead or any o.tjier.bur,tful ingredient. Life is the Gift of God. Whee we are sick this life is obscured, under a cloud, oppressed with humors. Experience has taught us certain means, whioh never fail for their removal. The ohild receives with his lifo the seeds of his death. It may take one, or one hundred years, before the seeds bear their sad fruit, but just as sure as the seeds of death ripen, life ceases* Purgingis the grand safeguard, because then what fosters the seeds of death arc taken away, expelled from the body.

Govern Yourselves by Experience. My child, nged five years, had scarlet fever, and for five days had constant fever- By order of the doctor I gave her syrup of rhubarb £he took nearly a pint, but her bowels continued closed. On the fifth day the doctor said her bowels must be opened or she would" be lost. I proposed Brandreth's Pills to this he would not consent—saying sho was too weak. I consulted with my husband, and we concluded to give her three pills. In about four hours they operated, filling half full a common chamber. After that operation the fevor left her, and she rapidly recovered.— Reference, 206 Clerpinot Avenue, Brooklyn.
