F. Howe, Capt. S,

H. Potter, Deacon Harry Bos8 and some fifteen or twenty other members of the Congregational Church will attend the fifth ijemi-centennial anniversary jubile in Chicago this week. The g*Mth?meri above named leave this evening, and lb others will go to morrow. Tlie jubilee meetings will commence on Wednesday and close on Friday. The Triennial Convention of the Congregational Churches of the Northwest meets Chicago to-morrow for the purpose electing Directors of the Theological Seminary. Among the graduates of this Seminary, this year, in the special cours^ is George L. Coddington, formerly of this city.

Terre Haute Express is making

great deal of capital against the Journal of that city, because its proprietors went abroad to get their steam boiler.—Lafayette Journal.

Our Lafayette cotemporary ought to know that the above is entirely untfi&^ The

EXPRESS

has nothing to do with the

Journal's business matters, and has never attempted any interference therewith But when the Journal represented that there was no manufactory of boilers this city, it became our business to show that such was not the case. IIavir»g one of the largest boiler factories in the West here, we did not intend that it should be entirely ignored. The proprietors of the Jourmt nad a perfect right to go where they pleased for their boiler, but they did wrong in representing that they could not get such an article here. And it was that of which we spoke, without any intention of "making capital."

THE BALLOON MAN

Pastor of the

liaptist Church, had'so far recovered from his recent illness a? to be, able to occupy his pulpit yesterday

THE

i» in town. We

mean the man who goes about with toy balloons already inflated, restrained from a flight toward the skies by a string held in the hand. These perambulating £cro nauts are rarely seen much until spring appears. Whether or not cold weather is fatal to their business we cannot say, but they seldom appear in winter. They would not die in Spring tiole, for that is the most favorable time for their busi ness. The balloon man isn't much of a talker, but he lets his wares speak for themselves. He tak& a position on some corner where there are many# passers-by, and keeps his half dozen balloons well in hand, feeling assured that some little fel low's attention will be attracted towards the bright globes, that look like a bunch of mammoth cherries, dancing on noth ing, and give his mother no peace until she buys him one. Again he stalks sol emnly about, the envy of all the .little folks he meete, many of whom* wish they were a man, so that they could go around with a whole bunch of balloons.

FUNERAL of Henry BasCotnb Ross

late conductor of the In dianapolis and St. Louis Boad was largely attended at Indianapolis yesterday afternoon. The services were held at the Second Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. H. A Edson, and were of the mo3t solemn and affecting character, after which the remains were conveyed to Crown Hill Cemetery where in that beautiful City of the Dead many warm friends'bade a last good-bye to all that is mortal of a dearly loved friend The officers of the T. H. & I. R. kindly tendered a special car to tho&e desiring to attend the funeral. The car left at ten o'clock yesterday morning, carrying large party, consisting of officers and employee of-the I. & St. L. and the T. II. I. R. R. with a number of our citizens.— On the road, Capt. Wni. II. Finkbine of the I. & St. L. R. R. was called to the Chair, and Lyndon A. Smith of the T. II. & I. B. R. appointed Secretary.

Hon. Bayleas W. Hanna, Attorney of the I. & St. L., stated the object of the meeting to give suitable expression and condolence in reference to the death of H. B. Boss, late conductor of the Indianapolis & St. Louis B. Iv., who died of acute disease^ at St. Louis, on the 21st inst.: and upon motion, Gdbrge II. Iconic roy, of the I. & St. L., Albert F. Mills,of theT. H. & I., and- John 6. Turner, of tlie St. L. V. & T. II. B. R., were appointed a committee to prepare and introduce resolutions suitable to the occasion. The committee submitted the following: •.

We have heard, with sorrow, of the death of our late friend and co-laborer, Henry liascomb Boss, of the IndianapoA St. Louis Bailroad, so long, and so intimately connected with railroad interests in our midst, we remember his warm and cordial greetings, high toned honor, and his genial demeanor in our social relations: That as a colleague in railroad duties, he was courageous, self-reliant and elficient—as a friend, ever true and reliable.

As we go now to attend his funeral at Indianapolis, we do hereby tender our sincere condolence to the afflicted family of our lamented friend, and our warm sympathy to the large circle of his mourning friends.

We recognise with appreciation the kindness of the Terre Haute and Indianapolis railroad in plaiting
