THE citizens of Terre Haute have ordered several portable engines from the machinists of Hamilton, Ohioj'"tms Reason, when it must ba well ktoown to onr neighbors that aa good engines andma^ chinery are made here, as at any other point in the West. Can jealousy of the prosperity of Indianapolis prompt the business men of the Prairie City to thus discriminate against the mechanics of our own State and in favor of another. Indiana Journal of Commerce.

No. "Jealousy" can't do anything of the kind, for there is no such feeling on the part of the citizens of Terre Haute toward Indianapolis or an^ ptlier, pjace. "Ft must be well lenown that as good* Engines and machinery are made here" in Terre Haute, "as at any otjier point in (lie West." But there arc many people who cannot be induced to patronize home industry. "Distance lends enchantment to the view,'* afad thousands of well-meaning persons insist on going away from home to buy what ihey could obtain cheaper at their own doors. This is no new phase of human nature, and the Journal of Commerce has no occasion to ascribe it to a mean motive. We ask that paper to indicate in what way, or at what time, Terre Haute has shown any "jealousy of the prosperity of Indianapolis"? Hiis city has no occasion for jealousy. Her own great and increasing prosperity puts her in the most amiable temper towards (111 the world. .fV

One word to the Indiana Journal of Commerce: It will be advisable for that paper to see some things outside of Indianapolis, if it aspires to :i State circulation, as its name indicates. i'or instance, if it wants support from Terre Haute, it will not get it by talking about a "jealousy" on the part of our citizens that exists only in its own fancy. Let it become, honestly and truly, an organ of the manufacturing and trade interests of Indiana, and it will have the best wishes and liberal patronage of manufacturers and merchants in this city and vicinity. Not till then.

Tin: Hcntiuel learns that Major John E, Simpson, Assistant Superintendent of the Terre Haute and Indianapolis Railroad' lia succeeded in arranging with the authorities at Washington for the removal of the Confederate dead from the ground wished lor the side tracks to the new round-house at Indianapolis.

NOTICING our item in relation to the Connecticut man who is seeking a location for the poultry business, the Indianapolis Commercial says:

He is not particular about location, however, provided sufficient inducements are held out. Ten acres of land on the Fletcher farm, northeast of the eity, or fifteen acres next to Fall Creek, and a thousand dollars in money, would lead him to change his mind and come to thi.-i city. For twelve acres of ground and the Normal school building for a henery, he would go to Terre Haute but he has rejected a proposition to take half the assets and join with John Purdue in the Agricultural College at Lafayette.

PARIS, April 23.—A Cabinet Council was held yesterday at the Tuilleries, the Emperor presided. It was decided after a debate of more than two hours ta identify the Ministry with the plebiscite and publish a proclamation signed by each minister, the papers and regulations attached to it to be inserted in.the|roclamatiop. (Oliver at tfrst objected to this on the ground that the regulati6ts and all matters referred to would be duly '"published to-day in the journal-official, and the ministeml proclamation made known through the same source to-morrOw, Sunday, and also if ready, a proclama tion by the Emperor, explanatory of the document.

Discussion aroso on the subject of the .Enjperor's dynasty and hereditary snccession, that it sliouid be inserted in the proclamation. The Emperor objected to this oil the ground that, for aim, the acknowledged representative of the people, tojioV ask for rati^cation by a tote t»f IS,Odd, would bis in reality expressing doubt of tlie loyalty of his subjects. It was decided that the Emp«ror, being elected by»million votes, will not and does not propose at the present day the question of dynasty to the people, on.the ground tliat in 1852 His Majesty demanded co-operation of the people to re establish order, which W the foundation of all national prosperity, and that in 1870 he lejnand& afe&tance of the people to'cnable liiu to found Iind consolidate liberty in and for France. The Ministerial proclamation criticizes the conduct of oppositionists, and asserts that their course lsinexplicable. It says that if electors vote no" on plebiscite, they will avow themselves adversaries of liberty by sO-dfaftig.
